Air Pressure Regulator Question

My name is Tom and I am totally new here. I am an old guzzer at 72 so if I mess this up, just let me know.

I have a Benjamin Discovery that I use to keep English House Sparrows away from my Martin houses.

I recharge the rifle with an Empire 48ci/3000psi bottle having a “jdsairman.com” 3000psi regulator.

The last time I took the bottle to get refilled, it would not take any air.

It is always kept in the house and has a rubber cap over the input connector so should not be dirty.

Question 1. Is there a way to clean or check for the problem?

Question 2. I can switch to this regulator from Amazon if it will fit the Empire bottle?

Question 3. If I switch regulators is there a special way or special tools needed to install it?

Here are pics of what I have now.

"Wont take air"? So no air going in? What kind if shop (just asking that one .

It does fill through the foster fitting correct, drain tank remove & service (single oring/seal most likely) & replace. IF the pin falls right out , well........ not it. If it takes a good effort to push the pin inside your fill fitting out there you go. The Correct sealant will be nice when replacing it.

And heck it is a bottle have you looked posted in the https://www.airgunnation.com/forum/accessories/air-tanks-pumps-compressors-filters/  section?

Regs are easy to rebuild and in your case at least pretty simple and low cost. .

I took the bottle to Divers Supply Indy (Indianapolis). They have filled it before in the past. Generally only get it filled one time a year.

Since I am not back where they fill it, I can only assume they connect to the input connector on the side after taking the rubber protector cap off. That would be the quick connect with the rubber cap, just left of the gauge in the picture. The adaptor that I use to connect to the disco is not on when I take it to be filled. They fill it while I wait and it takes about 5 minutes cost $10. But, last time they brought it out and said it would not take any air. The bottle still had enough pressure in it to get two partial refills on my disco after I brought it home.

They said it takes a special wrench to put the regulator on, if I bought a replacement regulator.

Where would I find the correct sealant?

And thanks for your reply.

Looks like a Benjamin bottle and if so they are really soaking you for the fill. It should be $10 for a much bigger tank.

First things first drain the tank of all its air.

Then remove the small foster fitting and check to see that it will pass air. If it won't clean it out and or replace the small o-ring that is there.

If that is not the problem you can disassemble the reg further to ascertain the problem.

There is a small chance that a newbie, when filling the tank, did not know what they were doing and tried to fill it from the outlet fitting.

Ok, I unscrewed the quick connect used to fill the bottle.

inside is what appears to be a screw head.

In trying to turn the flat tip screw head, I buggered up the flat tip slot. But it appears that it is frozen in place. With a small blunt probe, I tried to see if anything in the other end would move and nothing seemed to budge. So, no movable pressure valve. There did seem to be some type of lubricant that had been added, I presume to loosen the moving parts when the scuba shop couldn’t get air to go in.

At this point I think it would be easier to just order a new quick connect, add some sealant to the threads and install it.

The shop might be charging a little much but since I only fill it one time a year and especially because they will fill it while I wait, I won’t complain.

Any additional thoughts?

Edit;

Output on the reg you listed is only 2200psi so not enough to fill most guns. But enough for what you are shooting.

Me I would probly want one that goes to at least 3000psi or more so if o got another gun that would take a higher pressure I would still be good.

The 5/8th thread is the normal paintball thread used in the USA. I would guess that the Benjamin tank would be that but can't be positive.

The Benjamin Discovery operates at a 2000psi max so the 2200 output would work fine.

The Amazon regulator would work fine and instead of an old regulator with a new input connector. And Amazon can have it here in two or three days with free shipping.

The question would be what to use as a sealant. I saw a video where they used loctite red.

No sealant on the reg. The pressure in the tank will tighten and hold the reg in place just fine. Using locktight can lead to a damaged reg if any gets in it.

If you use locktight it will be difficult or impossible to get it off again.

I have messed with a few regs in my time and the only one I could not get back off is the one I used locktight on.
