So, like I posted before I ran into trouble installing a powerblock upgrade on my pre-powerblock M3. I followed the instruction videos on you tube to the letter. When I got the M3 together again it leaked all air trough the barrel. So I took it apart again.
Strange thing to begin with was the fact that a loose, NEW valve seat ring was hanging on the piston, past the delrin bushing towards the trigger housing. I thought nothing of it at the time. It was just the way it was when I disassembled it.
The existing delrin bushing on the valve stem did look damaged a bit but the rifle was holding air just fine before I took it apart.
The only thing odd when I inspected the powerblock kit packing list, the valve seat on the exploded view drawing was missing Neither Ernest Rowe or ‘airbuks’ mentioned this part in their video. So I didn’t think anything of it.
So when putting my rifle back together again I positioned the valve seat like I found it. But by now I started to figure out where it should go. Only after measuring the valve seat and trying to fit it in the old valve house I saw this could never have been together like this. It’s just to large of a diameter to fit in there.
After searching the Airgun nation forums I stumbled upon the video in this topic from Enkey, showing the valve seat position. That’s also when I started to wonder how this ‘powerblock part’ found its way into my older M3.
Then I got in contact with Huma Air and they told me the valve seat was supposed to be pre-installed in the valve house and used to be machined in the old valve house. They also told me FX sometimes forgot to install it or just chuck it in the box.
Only then did I come to the conclusion my rifle was never gonna seal with a damaged delrin bushing and was too small of a diameter because it went straight through the new valve seat.
I bought a new valve stem from Huma and finally was able to seal the rifle again. The bushing did look different and larger than the old one. Now I finally have an airtight rifle with a powerblock installed. But it took way more effort than I could have imagined.
Now this morning I stumbled upon this Ernest Rowe video where he’s manufacturing an oversized delrin bushing for a valve stem. Suggesting that you need a bigger bushing when you upgrade from an older rifle to a powerblock situation.
So just to help me understand after watching this video can anyone tell me what went wrong with the new valve seat already being in my rifle without it having the powerblock? Does anyone here have a possible explanation of how and why?
Why did none of the videomakers mention the changed valve seat when showing on the video how to install the powerblock?
How were other people able to seal their rifle using the older style valve stem with smaller diameter bushing? I can’t be the first one to ever buy a powerblock upgrade kit for my M3.
I’m left with a lot of unanswered questions. Maybe someone can help me out?
Thanks for reading.
Cheers, Nick
