Air Arms S510 XS Ultimate Sporter + slug compatibility???

I have an Air Arms S510 XS Ultimate Sporter PCP air rifle that I've been using for some time now to shoot .22 caliber pellets with. Just this evening I watched the video below and I'm now wondering if I'm able to shoot .22 cal slugs with my gun in addition to the pellets I've been shooting? Can someone with direct experience using this gun with slugs chime in and confirm whether or not this is possible (before I go out and destroy my gun using the wrong ammo 😣). Thanks!

@m021478 - I have the exact same gun ( assuming yours is U.S. based like mine - full power - not Euro 12 ft/lb limit ). I tried the FX Hybrids and while it shot them -- and shot them reasonably accurately it just doesn't have the horsepower to fire them at speed. I ran a clip (10 shots) of them over my chrony and even at full power the best it could do was only in the low 700's fps. H&N makes some that I've heard are supposed to be pretty good - I've thought about trying the smaller .217 sized one but . . just haven't yet. The FX's - while really nice - just a bummer that I can't really use them in this gun. Link here for some info on the H&N's --

Those H&N slugs you mentioned are the same ones Steve Scialli tests in the AEAC video I shared above, and somewhere in that video I recall him saying pretty much exactly what you did... If only the s510 was capable of making the slugs fly a few hundred FPS faster, they would be so much better. The slugs are designed to open up at about 900fps and the s510 can only get them to the low 700fps range. I think I'll stick with shooting pellets from my s510 for now. The slugs will have to wait until my FX Impact MKII .25cal 700mm arrives soon! Thanks for your feedback!

Hi Guys.....has anyone testes the NSA light pellets?

I just ordered a couple, they are 17.5 grains. That should be light enough o get them close to those 850fps. Ordered in .217 cal, which is the exact caliber of the Air Arms Diabolo which are the ones that my S510 Ultimate Soporter (USA Version swell) loves the most. And also, taking into account that due to the "hardness" of the trailing edge of the slug is harder than the skirt of a regular pellet, got a pack of .2165.

I will let you know how it goes. Meanwhile if anybody has had any experience with those.......comments very much welcome!

Not without some modifications to increase airflow

I bought a .22 S510 XS Ultimate Sporter a year ago, and I've tested as many light weight slugs as I can get a hold of. So far, no slug has shot well. Speed and precision are not there. However, I've never tested a slug under 20 grains. With pellets, the sweet spot for the rifle is definitely between 16 and 18 grains. I will test a lighter slug at some point soon, but I wonder if the choked barrel is another challenge to shooting slugs effectively. The slugs I've tested in my S510 without great results are:

FX Hybrid 22gr
ARG 20.1 gr
Zan 23gr
JSB Knockout 23.39gr
Javelin Gen 2 23gr
Wildman 21gr

What matters in this case is SPEED.... without measuring the speed your pushing the pellet at it is hard to determine if you are pushing the slug fast enough for it to even be of any benefit / aerodynamically stable.

these AA aren't designed for slugs , why not an FX where you can control barrel ,hammer , plenum size , reg . pressure etc ? i have a 410 , and two 510's 177,22. a 16 -18 gr diablo pellet for22 seems to be what they built the gun to shoot , hey Rudy ! not aimed at you just more agree with you on these AA guns !

hammers are not screwdrivers and chisels are not hammers - proper tool for the job matters - in this case the amount (volume) of the air leaving the plenum/air reservoir. Different airguns different settings different powers
