Air Arms S510 "recoil"

I know being a pcp that it doesn't recoil like a normal firearm but I have found that my S510 jumps a bit when fired so unless I pay attention to my grip and follow through I don't get the best accuracy. Has anybody else had this experience with their s510?

FWIW mine is the .25 so I think the heavy hammer and hammer spring is the reason it jumps pretty good? Not sure if the .177 and .22 use softer springs? I know for sure after shooting almost 1000 pellets through it that the problem is NOT the gun but the way I'm holding it. I have a bipod fitted and use a rear bag under the butt of the rifle. If I pay close attention it will shoot .5" at 50 yards but more often than not the groups are closer to .75" with a sometime flyer that opens it up to 1".

Don't get me wrong I still love the gun but after shooting my mutant the s510 feels like shooting a springer lol!

.5" to .75" at 50 yards is pretty good shooting. I get similar results with my S510 .22 and I can do a little better with some of my heaver guns. I am not sure why but it might be that little jump that increases as weight decreases. It is that small size and light weight that attracts me to the S510 when I am in the woods and shooting off-hand. You could drill out your stock and add 3 pounds of lead and let us know it shoots better from the bench.

I agree it is most likely because the rifle is so light. I'm happy with the accuracy I get with it for sure. I have a 1 1/8" spinner at 50 yards and the s510 will nail it 10/10 times. The guns not the problem, I just need to practice with it more. No need to bust out the power tools quite yet lol.

I used to have an s400 sl carbine and it shot amazing. That gun is the reason I bought another AA.

More power means more recoil, and that gets noticeable in the bigger calibers. One of Newton's laws says "that for every reaction, there's an equal an opposite reaction" , 40 fpe pushing back thru 7 pound of rifle becomes noticeable, but its obviously next to nothing compared to a center-fire cartridge.

My S510 is a 22 cal and I mostly shoot it on half power for general use. Its slick.

That makes sense. Up til the .25 s510 I've only shot 30fpe .22's. It's funny the most rational explanation and it's the one thing I didn't think of. Thanks guys. I did shoot a real tight <.5" group with it today at 49 yards. Also aimed at a giant pine tree that's around 80 yards away so I could track the pellet flight and they fly straight as an arrow! Can't wait til it warms up so I can play with it more.
