Air Arms S500XS Question

Information on Air Arms, i do not know anything about Air ams i am wanting to know if the gun has the power wheel adjustment does that mean it is not regulated. If that is the case which would you prefer. I am wanting a regulated .177 but want some advise. I am also looking at a Daystate Revere. Also anyone have any luck with lightweight slugs in either gun?

The power wheel on the s500xs is the transfer port I believe. I know that there are certain air arms without regulators and some with. Here is the s500xs with a reg.

I don't have an air arms but I have shot one at my airgun club. I think they are a great choice. I never shot a Revere but I doubt it's better than the air arms. Its probably just as good but not better. I say this after watching many many people do great at field target with them. They are extremely accurate and well made. I'm sure the Revere is also great but I have zero experience with one. Good luck to you.

I believe the S500XS is regulated. I have a Daystate Revere in .22, and previously owned an AA S510XS. They are both excellent rIfles, and the more accurate would be luck of the draw, the better barrel. Neither are especially owner friendly with respect to tuning, but if it delivers what you want, you should be very satisfied with either one. 

The power adjustment on the AA is a bit too gimmicky for my liking. It will adjust power, but only by restricting the TP. If you want a well balanced tune at a given power level, then the reg set point and hammer tension should be adjusted to the desired tune. Just my opinion. They are both great, classic sporter style rifles, of which we have too few today. Seems the market wants high power, tactical styling, and heavy slugs. IMO, these are not the qualities that have built the loyal following for air rifles of the type these two so well represent.

I have one of the new generation and have owned previous generations of the S500.

New generation is regulated as well as having the power adjuster. The beauty of the power adjuster is so you can fine-tune it quasi externally for various speeds albeit not infinite. 
according to AA tech support, neither the regulator nor hammer spring are adjustable.

The power adjuster on both generations is better described as an adjustable transfer port. On the newer generation, the indents on the power adjuster isn’t linear like the earlier generations. 
The newer generation has a 250 bar fill with the regulator pre set at 145ish. Older generation could only be filled to 200 bar. 
My current S500, I shoot HFT so it took some real tinkering with the power adjuster to get the “sweet spot” FPS the pellet likes. It just so happens to be in between to indents so to keep it from self adjusting, I had to put a dab of shoe goo on the knob to keep it from moving.

I really love the gun once I got the power setting I wanted. Accuracy is great, the trigger is crisp and breaks like glass and I can get a full match on a fill. The loading port is very generous and the side lever is super smooth. Shouldering and shooting is a dream. Very well balanced too.
