"ddransoml".22 cal. I actually didn't like the look initially...but the more I watched the few short reviews I got hooked. No one at Pyramydair shot it so they couldn't offer much info. I'll do my best with a review.
I was the same initially. My first reaction was "is that it?" "They just stuck one of their old (and outdated) guns in a bullpup stock and doubled the price".
My opinion has been changed more recently though and not because of any reviews. It is actually because they are basing it on an upgraded version of a solid, proven and much loved platform. Based on some of my recent experiences with "the new guy", it's a relief to know what you're getting. There are no design problems or teething issues to fix. It will just work. You don't even need a review.
The only thing that was wrong with the S510 was the lack of a regulator and the length. They fixed that and added a forward cocking mechanism which pretty much brings the design up to date with the competition.
The guys at AA are skilled craftsman and I suspect the finishing quality will be superior to some of my favorite bullpup brands. I found that this is more important to me than I thought.
There are still a few things which disappoint me about the Galahad though and this applies to all Air Arms, BSA and Daystate guns and that is the complete lack of effort and thought that went into their 25 cal offerings. You absolutely can not just take the 22 and slap a 25 barrel on there without any other upgrades. You end up with an underpowered rifle with a low shot count and too much noise. None of those brands have a decent 25 cal between them and that is my preferred hunting caliber.
A 25 cal needs 45-55fpe, a longer air tube, a 250bar fill and a larger shroud than the 22. Their competition are offering that and for less money in some cases. At the price they are charging, I don't want to have to compromise. For this reason, I would stick to a 22 with those brands. They all make a great 22.
I am also a little surprised by the high price of their Walnut version. Given the current pound / dollar exchange rate, I was wondering if there is a little brand arrogance going on there. I guess we'll see when some members start buying them and let us know. At $1800, I would expect the wood to be a highly figured curly grain walnut and not the usual "some are nicer than others so you have to get lucky" thing.
