Airgun Technologies AGT Vixen Questions

I got an AGT Vixen Long in .177 caliber on the way. I like the idea of adding very light weight and compact pester rifle to my arsenal. Plus I am thinking about going to Florida to do some iguana shooting and this rifles lower power, light weight and shot count looks to be a good match for the typical suburban shooting. The rifles tune as listed on the internet seems to set up just right for pellets with the JSB 8.44 going at 920 fps for about 16 fpe which would make 10 grain pellets fly at about 840 fps. I still would like to try tuning the rifle for shooting some light slugs for pesting at my home grounds. I therefore would like to ask some questions about tuning the rifle. I have read some basic information on the net but would like to clarify some things.
First it is posted the regulator pressure from the factory is set at about 100 to 110 bar. I was thinking about getting an Huma tuning regulator to install for its bar scale. I wondered though does the front plug on left hand side of the receiver ahead of the magazine access the regulator side of the rifles pressure. If so is there room to install a pressure gauge in the thread to read the regulator pressure and is it a 1/8" bsp thread. Also would there be room to clear the magazine which I think installs from the right hand side of the rifle. If that is possible then I might not need the Huma reg. and just use the gauge to read the regulator pressure. Next to adjust the hammer I understand that you should remove the pistol grip first because there is a set screw you must loosen to adjust the hammer. Next are the barrels threads loctited onto the shroud. If so is there any way to apply heat without damaging internals. I always clean my new barrels using a patch worm which is hard at time to clear any baffels. Thanks for any input or advice. Bill

As for using a Huma (And I'm a big Huma reg fan) You won't need it likely in that rifle as it's one of the most consistent stock regs I've had. I have no idea if that hole is threaded 1/8 bspp or not but if it is that would be a good idea about a reg gauge. You would only have room for probably a stock 20mm tiny ATG gauge like the one you'll have on the bottle pressure at the rear, but You can fit a 23 or 25mm gauge back there instead and install that small AGT one up front (if it's threaded for that thread size) and also if it's a bleeder into the air. If it is air in that hole it would be regulated pressure at is would be right before the port. Ive never had the plug out myself.

Thanks for the reply. As you said the AGT regulators have a good reputation for consistency. I have tried to find the parts list for the Vixen to see if they list the plug thread size. I know the owners manual shows the part schematic but I can't find a download of the picture. It looks like in the pictures of the Vixen that the magazine sits above flush with the side of the receiver and with most gauges they sit off the surface a few millimeters. Would be nice to know the regulator bar setting for tuning.

I can de-gas mine tomorrow and check the deal with that plug. If I remember correctly, I think mine (.22) is at like 115-120 bar from letting it drop off the reg when I was doing shot strings. I'll check where it goes and if my tiny AGT gauge I pulled off one of my AGT riles fits in there. There doesn't look like there is any more room for a gauge than a tiny one as the mag does protrude from the left side more than a few MM.

The end cap (air stripper) on the muzzle end screws off of the threaded barrel. Then the shroud slides off. There are two hole for a pin tool to turn the end cap. IMO a 1/2 ass design of baffles that could have been done much better. I 3d printed another air stripper with better baffles and replaced the shroud with a CF one.
Thanks for your input too. There is not a lot of information on YouTube and other places on working on the AGT Vixen. I know everyone wants their airguns to be mouse fart quiet. It would be nice to see some decibel reading before and after for some sound suppression designs. I do myself have a 3d printer and if you would like to share your file great, if not I understand. I know a lot of hard work goes into designing projects for printing. I saw that someone in the UK I think makes a shroud and baffle for sale. I have not looked into the details but if it is better on sound suppression and lighter done in carbon fiber that is a plus-plus. Bill

The hole on the side near the magazine is m6x? . Not sure of the pitch but it's M6. It could be tapped to 1/8 bspp if someone wanted to as it' the path of the air from the regulator for sure as well.
Thanks for checking that for me. It was just a thought for making the aspect of tuning the rifle a little more precise and repeatable. The idea of that and having a scale for hammer adjustments would sure make for easier tuning of the Vixen. AGT are you listening?

No, AGT isn’t listening. They don’t browse these pages or AGN at all.

Another thought I had was the aspect of on the rifle magazine storage. I know AGT makes that long vertical AR style magazine add on. I personally don'tlike the way it sticks down so much. I have a 3d printer and was thinking to design a mag holder that holds two to three mag in a horizontal orientation either upright or on their side. I thought I saw that someone had done this in my Vixen research. Has anyone here seen that done. Bill

Here are the files I used. It connects to a CF tube. It not a great design but it work much better than stock. After reading subscriber and oldspook posts I think I can do much better on the next version. On the other end I 3d printed a plug with a hole in the middle for the barrel and both the ID and OD of the plug has o-ring seals.
