It's usually cold and windy here where I live at 6640' elevation but the wind wasn't too bad today at 2-6 mph as well as somewhat warm at 41-43 degrees. So I thought why not try those Altaros slugs but it was 1:00 before it warmed up enough and I got to it.
All these are 5 shot groups done at 50Y and wind was switching back and forth because it was coming from behind me but mostly from 4 o'clock.
I didn't clean this barrel because I was getting a late start though I only had 20 or so of these same slugs through this rifle a couple weeks ago as well as not quite that amount of 29gr and 34gr NSA's. I'm gonna say 50 slugs through the gun before I started today.
From what I was told by someone that has a lot of experience tuning these guns the twist rate is 1-17". If you have a slower twist barrel meant for pellets I doubt these will stabilize enough.
I used a slight amount of a product for lubrication called Gunzilla sprayed onto a foam pad from a pellet tin and rolled the slugs around on it.
These slugs go into the chamber easy so another thousandth larger in diameter might help improve precision but that will have to be looked at later??
I misplaced part of my chronograph somewhere and looked around but couldn't find it - darn it?! All I can point out for a velocity comparison for now is the the NSA 29gr go 925 fps. Only a SWAG but these 49.5 gr slugs are probably around 800 fps, maybe less?? I'll update the velocity here when I know for sure.
A couple weeks ago I went to a friends house and for whatever reason I didn't have great success with these slugs. I think the bench was a little tall for me because I never got very comfortable but who knows ?? because sometimes airguns shoot well and sometimes they don't. This is all a mystery to me which seemingly will never be solved.
Nevertheless these shot plenty acceptable today with no flyers.
The NSA's, both weights I mentioned, shoot pretty much the same as these Altaros slugs did.
I shot laying down on the concrete using the stuff in the photo.
For the fun of it look for the slug laying on the scope, its there.
The white bull on the target is 1" and groups were measured CTC.
I was happy with the results.
