Does anyone know a good place to buy Ballistic Gel. It seems a block like we see in videos is about $100. I'm hoping I can find some cheaper than that. If you know a place, let me know. Thanks -Nate

Affordable BALISTIC GEL? Where to Buy?

There are recipes to make your own. But then you have to buy the ingredients, have a mold and keep it cool. The homemade stuff works great but doesn’t last as long in the heat.

It's just Knox gelatin. Use 1oz of powder to every 8oz of water and you have ballistics gel.

Make it .... go to the grocery store and go to the canning section. You will find the gelatin and also wax. Both can be used if mixed to the correct way and you can use either one.

One advantage to using clay is it's easy to see the path of the pellet. Ballistics gelatin, especially if you mix in too much water, can let the smaller pellets pass through without much of a hint as to the path the pellet took.

I don't know if the DIY gel made from store bought supplies is reusable, but here's possibly a better solution for the initial investment of a few more dollars (or if you want something see through versus clay)... There's the link at the bottom to the reusable Clear Ballistics that I use. I shoot it in multiple spots, from both ends, an inch or less apart and it lasts forever before needing to be melted down. It may appear expensive, but it is really affordable considering the amount of shots and melts it allows for. Also, get the 6"-6"-16" block. Anything less and the heavy .45 calibers and powder burners will pass through at ten yards. You can mold it to whatever form that you want too when remelted. Imagine the possibilities, and your viewer's reactions watching the show as well...
