Adjusting the fixed parallax setting on a scope

I've been busy studying how to properly adust parallax settings on fixed parallax scopes and thought I should leave this here

I've done this on many Leupold VX-1 - VX-3 scopes that have fixed 100 yard parallax lenses. It's not hard to do at all, however, some of the locking rings can be tough. I used a rubber strap wrench to remove the ring first.

I've done this on a number of scopes as well. Some arrive and just out of focus. I've always been able to remedy by adjusting the font objective.

That's interesting. I wish the video would have showed a better view of the scope and the inside of it. That would maybe give us a better understanding of what we might be looking for. I have an old (circa late 1980's) Leupold 2x7 scope on my airgun now. It doesn't focus real close unless it's on 2 power. It looks like it has a separate front part that would unscrew, but like he said, the front lens may just fall out-no bueno!

The lens will not fall out unless you turn it out. The locking ring is on an external thread and the lens carrier which the lens is attached to is an internal thread. Remove the locking ring and then rotate the lens carrier ccw to decrease yardage. You should not have to rotate more than a turn and a half. Because you rotated the lens you will have to check zero and adjust if needed. Loopys can be really tight so I wrap some rubber bands around the lock ring to protect and then tighten a hose clamp over the bands. Next I put on a welding love and twist. A word of caution. This process works on Loopys and Redfields and some more but does not work on all because some have the locking ring glued to the lens carrier so you have to be careful to make sure both don't rotate together or the lens WILL come out.
