Adjusting POI on PCP rifle

What are some of the better ways to change POI when you are outside the adjustment range of your scope when it is mounted. I mounted a new scope and found I was 45 MOA low when I went to sight it in. I pulled the scope and switched the rings - but nothing changed very much. I didn’t have that issue with my last scope, although it was mounted by AOA when the rifle was new. Open to suggestions.

2 piece 1" adjustable rings for 11mm dovetail rail. Nothing else. Don't recommend shimming scopes due to potential scope tube hidden unseen undue stresses and damage to negatively affect scope performance.

Yeah, that is exactly my concern....I’ll go looking for some new adjustable rings. I’ve got a couple sets of the Weaver-Picatinny to 11mm adapters coming. Are there any reason not to use Picatinny rings and these adapters?

What is up with no one mentioning likely the most popular option? FX No Limit rings can be adjusted to let you shoot hundreds of yards with a pellet rifle.

Your problem is a very familiar one to many/most of us with airguns have as they often run out of elevation adjustment when sighting in the gun.

I did this on the cheap for a 20MOA rise in POI once it werqed well until I broke down and installed the more expensive FX No Limits rings.

Makes things too tall? Makes things too frankenstienish? Ghetto gun? It's yours so whatever just don't post pictures.

Well - that an interesting perspective. Maybe you aren’t familiar with these adapters - or maybe I’m not. Thanks for your input.

I only use them when I have no choice such as using a red dot on a gun that has 11mm dovetail rails and the red dot got integrated Weaver Picatinny.

I don't like adapters because it affects the beauty of clean correct proper rings. Makes it look Mickey Mouse to me that's all. Something others will notice as well. Asking WHY do it like that (ha ha ha)

How does that UTG MOA Picatinny base set up even with adapter work for a Daystate Wolverine? I mean ditch the magazine ok no magazine use at all single shot tray only unless you machine that UTG drooper base well I guess so. It will have to be chopped in 2 places to clear the magazine and positioned perfect to not bend the scope tube when everything's put together if you catch my drift. Actually probably easier without the single shot tray and thumb in the pellets manually then close the bolt home. That should work.

Yea come to think of it yup it can be done just single shot tray no magazine use just roll the pellet into the single shot tray with your finger under that UTG Picatinny rail lifted up by those adapters. OK good idea!

Actually easier without the single shot tray thumb in the pellet without the tray for better finger loading clearance.

Your scope should be optically centered in a mirror.

If you shim back 0.005-0.010" at most and only torque rings to 10-15ft/inch

Use a feeler gauge to make sure your rings are torqued evenly.

Set everything up level. Use a plumb bob to get reticle in perfect vertical position. Make sure your action is level first. And a bubble level that fits your 1"-30mm-34mm-35mm-40mm

There is not a thing wrong with shimming a scope, if done correctly. But, I wouldn't go beyond the .025" you have done, and it sounds like you really need more, so adjustable rings are probably best in this case. I like Sportsmatch, but FX is good also, as are the Burris Signature rings. If you use the Signature rings, I recommend using a dovetail/weaver adapter, like the J&P, because I prefer the Weaver style attachment. Regarding shimming, if the thickness is not extreme (I've used .020" a lot), just use good judgment in tightening the upper ring halves. With a PCP rifle, heavy recoil is not an issue, and those rings don't need to be more than good and snug. I've used shimming on center fire rifles, where the torque needed to be more than snug (but not excessive), and I've never damaged a scope.
