Adjustable PCP’s? Are they accurate shooting High or Low ft./s? My PCP’s are!

For those who've never seen one, here's a pic of my Independence when it was new in 2014, with the pump arm partially opened. Also a shot of the left side of the receiver, showing the transfer port power adjuster wheel ( "." ".." & "..." Markings). You can also see the markings stating max pressure rating of 220 BAR.

I have since printed and laminated my range table and taped it to the left side of the buttstock for quick reference.

Thanks for sharing, I totally followed everything you said. The FX Independence is the original and one of the better on board pump PCP’s. It was on my must have list back when, but I never got one. Your a true air-gunner Feinwerk, sweet Indy!!

Incredible post! Love my DreamPup and shoot it sub 12-FP in the backyard most of the time, but love the ability to crank it up at longer ranges.

One question - how low does your Wildcat go with just the HST adjustment? I've wondered if it will go as low as the DreamPup.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together and share it!

I could go practically as low as I tune it for. With a lower regulator pressure, remove the plenum extension, and dial the internal HST adjustments back. But, I don’t see myself doing that....

Here is a shot string from today with the JSB King Heavy 33.95 grain from the Wildcat on HST level #1.

No doubt low power can get it done. My .177 AA Pro-Sport Walnut has more squirrels under its belt than any of my PCP’s and it’s @ 16 fpe. But it launches JSB 10.34’s @ 845 ft./s.

Many game critters shot but ran or flew off stories I could tell, but I’ll just keep it at they’re not my thing. Kind of like PCP pistols.. Not interested.. But, have many many uses, probably have more precision, and can be great fun! No doubt about it.

850fps is moving along pretty quick for any projectile. But even so, .177 is a pretty dang small projectile. And light. I have moved from .177 as a hunting caliber. The .22's I've had my hands on have been tack drivers. And that is the only way I can feel ok with using "low" power.

Yep, pistols have been a great source of challenge and fun for me recently. In building, tuning, and shooting. I never really was all that into them until I got my hands on a pcp pistol last year. Puts the pumpers and co2s to shame. I now have 4 pcp pistols, lol.

All lovely guns! Well, the HW44, not so much, but lovely in function? Haha. You're right about the price. That's what led me to get the wood gripped diana bandit here, actually the first pcp I ever owned. ~$205 in a pcp pistol market saturated with insanity? LOL. That's what got me started.

I have a Hatsan sortie. I'm not sure if it can be classified as a pistol, but it is. It's constantly begging for attention (maintenance). I also have two modified, and finely tune SPA pistols, and a Crosman 1322 pcp. The hatsan is just for kicks. The other three, really are quite refined. Although, I think I should make a new grip for the black pp800 at some point

All very fine Air-Pistols, but I think I will just stick with my long guns “Long_Gun”! Lolololol!!

On another note. Noticing my targets that I shot in this thread with my three FX’s, they were still laying around in the garage. I wasn’t overly pleased with how the FX Crown .25 caliber’s 75 yard groups turned out. I knew that it could do better. So, I had some free time today and decided to set up the same target used that day and give it another try(with the Crown only).

If at first you don’t succeed....

Second try 5 shot groups with the FX Crown .25 using JSB King Heavy 33.95 grain @ 850ft./s and 950ft./s

And something that I don’t normally do.. I actually measured the first try and second try groups center to center for comparison . As you will see I did shrink them down slightly... Check it out?

The first group’s measurements:

@850ft./s = 1.84”

@950ft./s = 1.23”

The second group’s measurements:

(today’s second try)

@850ft./s = 0.98”

@950ft./s = 1.13”

Not mind blowing smaller groups but still technically smaller! I knew the old girl could do better! Just had to prove that to myself, lol!
