Adding weights to rifle’s forend to increase stability.

I have been wanting to try adding some weights to the Saber Tactical chassis on my Crown MK2. I thought it might make the rifle a little more stable on the bags. The chassis has M LOK slots available for this purpose. The weights I found online were all more expensive than I expected. I just wanted to try out the weights and see if there was any difference in stability. So I decided to make my own weights. I used the screws and back plates from some M LOK accessories that I already had. Then I cut some scrap steel from the local metal scrap yard. This piece is 5/16” thick and 1 inch tall. I cut two lengths that are 6 inches each. I drilled the holes and then counter sunk them to keep the screw heads flush. The combined total of the two weights is 16.8 ounces. The two weights also add more than half an inch to the width of the forearm which should also be more stable on the bag. I’m going out tomorrow to my parents home where I have room to shoot at longer range than my backyard. I’ll report back if I find any significant difference in my shooting with the added weight.

Yes...

I shoot offhand. In doing so, I've found that the heavier rifles are MUCH easier to hold steady while aiming, even in my 72 year old hands.
I've found that a light hand hold, like the gun just resting "on" support hand, rather than "in" my support hand, and being gripped tightly, is also easier to hit the center of the target.

I'm guessing that your weights...should help...

I've used weights on my impact with good success. Although crude, I just grabbed a couple of heavy plates from my 20 ton press and bolted it to a ARCA mount,

and mounted it onto the front. Firing heavy projectiles thru 800mm long barrels will cause a lot of movement and the weights do help.

This target is at 219 yards, look at the amount of movement on vid.

It also helps on overly short lightweight guns as well. I hope it makes the same positive improvements on your setup!
