AAA EVOL 30 Questions

I decided to buy an AAA EVOL .30 from AoA to replace my disappointing Raptor. For anyone that has/had one, I would be grateful if you could provide some insight on the these questions:

  1. Magazine depth?
  2. Barrel chambering - is it shallow or deep? (e.g., do you have to jam pellets or slugs in the barrel with force?)
  3. Is the MILSPEC threading on the action / receiver legit MILSPEC? (I'm planning to install one of my Law Tactical folding stock adapters)

I do not have 30 cal, but i have .22 HPS. The mag seemed to me deep enough (tried different slugs - no problem). I can’t understand how deep the chamber is, but even loading process with force did not have any problems (it is loading very smoothly, more pleasantly then an Impact MK2 )
Regarding the MILSPEC - there seems to be something similar to a thread, but I'm not sure

I dont have the mag depth off hand but will check tomorrow. It will take a 30 polymag and NSA slugs to 50 gn. Over 50 gn is getting beyond the design intent of the gun but they will fit.

Unlike the HPS, the tac30 is chambered shallow for max precision with pellets but will easily chamber slugs upto 50gn with minimal effort.

Keep in mind EVOL 30 has a relatively short 18" barrel so it does extremely well with pellet weight slugs. It is not a max power 30 slug shooter but a precision shooter with 80 fpe.



Yes, it is fully AR compliant with A2 milspec receiver extension tubes.

I splurged a bit on Seekins rings. At first I got the high 0.97" on AOA's recommendation but those just didn't clear the mag. Went the next size up to the 1.26" extra high and they are working great.

Good to know! I have 1.03" SWFA rings and a 10x42 Mil-quad I'm throwing on mine and since it doesn't have the turret housing that sticks out underneath I should be ok.

Thanks, I can work with the 18" barrel, should be able to support 62gr IF they fit in the mags, but I'm already geared up for machining some other barrels and shrouds for it (maybe for the short, stubby NOE .311, depending on how the rifle feels). 


mtnGhost - I have the .22 Mini so will try to answer your questions.

1 - not sure on the .30, but the .22 has room for predators with room to spare.

2 - I find loading to be pretty effortless. It takes more force to cock the hammer spring than to return the bolt and put the pellet/slug into battery.

3 - Totally completely yes.

That is a great scope, I was JUST looking at that exact mode for my 22 cal Veteran!!! Having a hard time seeing POI over 400y with the NX8 4-32 on my Taipan, and I'm thinking the NX8 would be better for the EVOL. How is the clarity over 300y?

Unfortunately, I never shot 300 yards or looked at the target at that distance, but overall I can say that the quality of this scope is excellent! The clarity of the image is about the same as on ATACR 7-35 and NX8 4-32, but FLM-TR1 reticle is more convenient and better visible for me than MIL-C on Nightforces + compactness + unique zero stop+ field of view! It iis impossible to overestimate this scope and yes, you will love it! IMHO

@ScorpAir, right on! I have a 7-35 as well, but it's a hair too heavy for hunting. That March is ~6oz lighter lol, not a night and day difference, but it's something (the extra magnification would be greatly welcomed). Loved the glass and build quality on my 3-24x52, but inevitably let it go because I didn't like the eyebox.

My EVOL showed up this morning from AoA. Two problems with it, the first being the check valve in the fill port was stuck open, but that resolved itself after I shot it a couple of times while tethered. The second issue was a leak coming from the reg manometer. I figured out how to get at it (removing the lower receiver), and I had to give it 2/3 of a turn to seal.

I wound up turning it 3/4 though for alignment and assurance (it had a lot of adjustment there without forcing metal on metal). Not too upset about it, poop happens.

I'd still like to hear the official procedure for degassing. Someone told me they loosen the burst disk, but I'd like to figure out of there is a physical valve for depressurization.

LOL - don't feel guilty. I did the same thing.

So far my only complaint is you have to remove the barrel to take off the air tube to adjust the regulator. You're kinda screwed if you don't have an AR wrench.

I just noticed that a few minutes ago, but I commend that design! Used to hate having to use AR tools until I got proper wrenches 😂 

Mags fit the 62gr Varmint Knockers that Dale made for me with room to spare. I also shot (5) 65.5gr NSAs that I had in my bench over my new LMBR chrono, and they were all within 0.4fps of one another.

This thing is pretty slick. Extremely stout. It genuinely feels like an AR that collided with an airgun in a 4th dimension, and came out the othet side stamped EVOL. @slayer, one hell of a job on this design sir!!!
