AAA and other LR capable options

Hi members,

I have been shooting and enjoying my L2 for some time now. I have tested about every .22 pellet and slug available and have been getting decent groups at 60 yards max. As fun as the L2 is, I'm still wanting more - mainly long range accuracy

The AAA line of guns has peaked my interest for years and I think it's finally time to get one.

I'm having a hard time choosing between the Evol .30 and the Evol .22 HPS

The selection of ammunition is much greater in .22 but I have never tried a .30 and people seem to prefer that caliber for longer ranges.

The gun will be used for target shooting out to 150 yards+ in varying outdoor conditions. I don't hunt or shoot competitions, but I really appreciate accuracy.

What would you choose and why?

I got the Evol 30 a few months ago. I love it. The downside is the cost of ammo to feed a .30. Very expensive per pellet compared to .22. The upside to the .30 is that it’s big and fat and heavy and it puts the smack down on critters.

If target shooting is all you’ll be using it for, and you intend to do a lot of it, then I would say check out the prices of the ammo and let your wallet decide what you can afford to shoot.

I have the standard EVOL 22 (not HPS) and full size EVOL 30. I think the 30 is a bit more versatile but at a higher cost in pellets and air. I get around 100 shots at 30fpe in the .22 and around 30 in the .30. I do find the EVOL 30 considerably easier to shoot small groups with beyond 40 yards compared to the 22. I shoot the 22 more, however, due to less cost, noise, I shoot mostly at 40 yards, and I do not have to fill it up as much.

I shoot my Evol between 130 yards and 150 yards. I cannot complain, it has served me well taking out pigeons and those collard doves at those ranges. Have not had a chance to get it out and shoot it at farther distances just yet due to various reasons. Mostly work. I will say that with heavy pellets or slugs it has no issues hitting those flying rats. I was looking at the .30 but I am happy that I got the HPS. Being that it is designed for slugs yet shoots pellets amazingly well was a bonus if you ask me. There is a good price difference in ammo between the .30 and the .22. Also .22 has more to choose from when it comes to ammo selection. I dont think you could really go wrong no mater what one you go with. They are well built airguns.

I received my Evol 30 Standard in February of this year. I went with the 30 after watching so many reviews on it and because it was only my second gun in 30cal besides the Leshiy 2. Awesome trigger, 50 MOA scope rail, tensioned barrel, few o-rings, the weight is not bad, and great accuracy although I haven't taken it past 60 yards due to my limited range. I'll have to do that in next few months due to time constraints. I've been getting the urge to get a second Evol but I'm looking at the Mini in .22cal.

I have the 30 caliber Evol and given the choice I would choose the HPS version of either the 22 or the 30. The reason being, the longer HPS barrel gives you more adjustable power for slug or pellet tuning for long range accuracy for your shooting style. the 30 caliber has the power and projectile weight to buck the wind, whereas the 22 will give you more of a challenge in shooting it to remain accurate. Another thing to keep in mind is that there is a bigger selection of 22 caliber ammo available.. You can't go wrong with either gun though. Tom makes a top quality air gun and takes pride in his final product.
