AA s510 or daystate Huntsman regal xl?

I have both and like them both. I would take the AA S510 for the following reasons. Side lever is smoother and much nicer to cycle than a bolt action. The AA has adjustable power settings and a larger air reservoir for high shot capacity per fill. The AA is blued, the Daystate is anodized. The AA is cheaper so that's money in your pocket. My AA is every bit as accurate as my Daystate. My only recommendation would be to spend extra for the AA S510 with a dedicated right or left handed walnut stock instead of the softer cheaper poplar ambi stock. They don't look as high quality as the AA walnut stocks and they scratch and dent easily due to the soft poplar. I'd also opt for the AA carbine model instead of an Xtra if you want a rifle in the same length as the Daystate.

I own a s510 not a Huntsman and i tell you I love my AA, it is a bit long in the tooth so carbine would be the way to go. The adjustable power is the tie breaker for me, the gun is not pellet fussy. If in the back yard (max 25 yards) mid power all day long. If pest control (pigeons, starlings, ground squirrels 70-80 yards high power. Just so flexible, the only down size is its unregulated, so if you get outside of your optimal FPS for the pellet of your choice your groups will start to open up. I would recommend to anyone every day of the week and twice on sunday.

Spash, here's my take from experience. At the same time I had the Regal Xl 22 and the AA S500 22. The Regal has a really great shot count at 29-30fpe, right at 30-40 at 2-3% ES from a carbine. I have quiet a bit of data on this gun along with the AA 500 Extra and the Carbine version. The Extra is a lot longer than the Carbine and it will give you about the same shot count and energy as the Regal, maybe a little more power. The AA's FAC are fairly loud as well so I started using a LDC on my S500. Now that it was nice and quiet it was as long as a goose gun. This led me to selling it and gettin the S510 Carbine. Now I have a gun that is in the same length class as the Regal and as a bonus it came with a really nice LDC but..... the shot count on the S510 carbine at full power is only 22-23 shots if you try to keep the ES at 3% or under..that was the down side.
So, I decided to regulate it. Now it's a really great gun. 35-40 shots at around 1% ES at 28 FPE. If I had to choose now between the Regal and a AA Carbine I'd go with the Regal. If you don't mind a longer slightly louder gun I'd go with the S510 Extra.

If you can save 500 then buy S510 and don't worry about it. They are as mentioned very similar in performance. Build quality is about the same too. Daystate mechanical platform is not magic also.

Air Arms will be also a more consistent rifle to shoot, shot to shot. As the hammer is ridding on a guide rather then like on a Daystate inside the lower receiver tube. So in that sense S510 is a more well developed gun. But Regal has a better profile wood stock, and is lighter, but more louder actually without ldc. Air Arms vents its shroud from the receiver. Adjustable power on S510, which is a transfer port choke is not a big deal, best to shoot at high power all the time. Many folks think it is not necessary, as a sales point sure sounds good though.

Accuracy wise about the same, both use Walther premium barrels. So guns will be as accurate as you are. If you like a Daystate, like it seems you do buy it. Or buy 2 guns and just keep one that you like. All this is subjective opinion btw but hammer/valve design wise S510 has a slight advantage.

I have owned both btw, an S510 and a Huntsman, and I loved them both, still don't know why I have sold them. If I had the money to buy them again, I would buy both again :)

p.s. If you can get a good deal on a Wolverine, that would be a better step up from both of these.

I have looked at the Regal, since I have decided to buy a .22 rather than .25. But I am glad to have the input on the AA. Seems I need to look at it as well. Still making up my mind-and waiting for my tax return. Shot count is important--- and I cannot get a real handle on what one can expect from the Regal--reports range from 30-40.

Sorry for drifting off topic here. Less serious--I was impressed by the "launch" video for the Regal on the AirGunGearShow. Daystate claims they found it in the grave of King Richard III (The king's remains were recently found under parking lot). Tony B from Daystate calls him the last true king of England. So I doubt he dines at Buckingham Palace on a regular basis.

I have the AA S510 carbine in .22 in stock form it is a great rifle and works very well. I had the same decision to make between the two and I went with AA and have been very happy. I know I would have been just as happy if I bought the regal;) My S510 is super quiet and probably the quietest airgun I own. My S510 has an ldc on the end of the shroud just like crane_hard's regal does. They really are very close in performance with the regal just edging out the S510 carbine in shot count when both are stock. I put a regulator in my carbine and in my opinion with the reg the S510 carbine is the perfect hunting rifle and you would be hard pressed to find anything that you could say is better. I dont know with first hand experience but the Regal should be just as good and there are plenty of people who say its the pinnacle of a hunting rifle. For me it boils down to do you like a bolt or a side lever.

"Ginuwine1969"Was it hard to put a regulator in your s510? Did you need any special tools?
No it was quite simple. Tools needed was a drill press and thats it and allot of people have done the drilling with a dremel or hand drill you just have to be a little more careful. The S510 comes apart very easy and all you do is drill the breather, polish the air tube, cut down the pot then clean everything up and reassemble in reverse. I used a lathe to cut the pot down but again people have done it with simple hand tools like a hacksaw or pipe cutter and then dressed the part.
