I just got in a new AA Prosport, unpacked it, loaded a pellet and quickly discovered that the safety is not engaging. It fired ok. I repeated the process several more times and still no functioning safety. Any suggestions other than sending it back.

Pull the cocking lever ALL THE WAY BACK. You'll hear the ratcheting anti-bear trap clicks followed by the sear engagement click. Pull it back just a smidgen more and you'll hear another click. That'll be the safety engaging.

I took it back out heard the clicks, but the safety remains in a position that seems to be all to the left, just barely a little of the red tip showing on the right side, It fires without pushing the safety in. The safety will not move at all, either when cocking, or after cocking if you try to push it off, it is frozen in position

Double cock it. Cock it all the way back to the point where the sear engages and the underlever goes limp and then cock it back again. My TX200 was kind of fussy with the safety when new as well. That second pull back took care of it but after awhile it seemed to just settle in and start working as expected without the need to "double cock" it.

Well I tried that and it started working, I had to do it several times, and probably got a little complacent and grasped around the forearm and my had slipped on the cocking lever and I managed to smash my thumb quite smartly. Looks like its going to be black and blue for a few days.

Make sure the screw for the cocking shoe is not coming loose. If that loosens, the cocking shoe can shift a little bit and potentially cause some reduced leverage at the end of the cocking stroke.
