I have read the word "campaigning" used in the Field Target world as it pertains to gun choice during competition.
Anyone know when this word choice became a thing in field target... i like history... thus the question.

Oh, this is an easy one. All words are made up.

Actually I've heard campaign used this way in other shooting sports that originated in the UK, so I assume it's your run of the mill Anglo colonial-military knobbidness. We should ask David Slade, he put the "bidness" in "Anglo knobbidness".

I think the word was champaigning. The delicate art of celebrating victory with bubble wine when you choose the right gun. ant. is also spelled the same, however it represents expressing bubbly whining when you lose.

I know we use the term "military campaign".
I don't think i've heard FT peeps celebrating victory "champaig-ning" "before" a match with a particular rifle platform.
In context i have always heard the word in FT used to reference the gun of choice for a particular person to compete with.

I tend to talk big in my head about how good my gun is before the first shot, then proceed to choke. It's all downhill from there.

A descriptive verb used by many to "Spice up" there vocabulary sounding better than a "I'm Using" said gear/product one could say "I'm Campaigning" sounding more serious or professional.

Yeah in the sense of this definition the gun is the horse or race car. I think it’s more of an English (UK) thing.
