A small tip for Leshiy owners..

I swapped my reg out recently and after draining the airtube, swapping the reg and airing the gun back up I found that I had a slight leak from the bleed screw. I noticed that it took more force then usual to stop it from leaking. I bled the air back out and removed the bleed screw and tiny ball bearing to fimd a small sliver of aluminum on the sealing seat so removed it. Just filled thw gun back up and the screw took minimal force to seal.

Anyway, I think that when I bled the air I opened the screw too much so that there was room for the sliver of metal to get pushed under the ball bearing because I have drained the gun before and not had an issue (I assume the metal sliver has always been there).

If you need to drain your Leshiy I would only crack the bleed screw just enough for the air to start draining and be patient (unlike me)😆 that way if there is debris there maybe it wont have room to get onto the sealing surface and muck things up. If you do find that you have a leak there, dont crank on the bleed screw, it is better to take it out and clean it. If I had tried to tighten the screw too much Im sure I would have damaged the seat so it would never seal properly.

You can see the sliver of anodized alum. on the left from one of the threads somewhere maybe?

No...

I'd say, to do exactly what you did. If there is garbage somewhere in any part of the mechanism, remove it..! Don't blindly leave it in place only to rear its ugly head when you are out shooting, away from home.

Just like on one of my motorcycles. There is a small oil screen at the bottom of the oil pump. It takes about an hours time to get to it (removing parts). I not only found soft garbage in it, like you, I found what I'd call a good sized sliver of aluminum stuck in it. Stuck in it is one thing, breaking loose and getting into areas where it shouldn't be is another. Out of three cleanings, only found junk once.

Thanks for the heads up info. Bill

@Tweeter - you have a gen2 right? Is there a spring between the ball and screw? Like:

ball > spring > bleed screw

?

I had a slow leak over the weekend, but it went away. I haven't taken that screw out yet (Not much info out there and I want to avoid losing anything tiny - any additional info on disassembly would be greatly appreciated! 😎

No spring in mine just took the screw out carefully (because I heard there might be a spring) and tipped it over to let the ball fall out. If for some reason there is a spring it will be on top of the bearing so it shouldn't fly out anyway... Just don't take the screw out until all the air has been bled 😉

STO, you live in Maine where abouts? My Leshiy is very quiet already since it is 12fpe .177 but I'm sure there would be others interested in a new baffle design.

@Tweeter - thanks dude!

+1 for interest in a new baffle design. The best I have come up with so far is felt wrapped rubber on top of the DonnyFL insert. Quieter than any of the felt-only configurations that I've tested, but far from perfect.

Has anyone tried adding more shroud extensions yet? My next project is going to be finding / fitting a longer barrel, and I'm thinking about tackling the noise issues during that process. The dimensions are just weird though around the muzzle, it kind of limits the options a bit 👀

Yeah part of me wants to go to Brian over at Edgun West and say "hey, if you cut me a sweet deal on a Leshiy I'll build you a killer moderator insert for it that you can retail. I'll also give you some number of them free to cover the cost of the gun." From both sides' perspective it'd be a sweet deal, and would allow for a much quieter Leshiy with no increase in the package size. The flip side of the coin though is that it is an incredibly forward and pompous thing to say, so I have just kept my mouth shut instead.

Who am I anyway? What credibility to a stranger on the internet do I have to claim I can make a better moderator than anyone let alone Edgun who is one of the most accomplished and innovative airgun manufacturers in the world? Thus, not wanting to spend 1400$ on a toy purely to challenge myself with wacky eccentric bore moderator designs, my ideas for the platform have gone precisely nowhere. *shrug*

Hey STO, I am pretty sure Brian sells just the Leshiy baffle insert if that would get you started? Of course you wouldn't have the gun for testing though I guess... I'd be happy to take all the measurements you need if that helps?

Yeah you have to get your dirty dick beaters on the gun itself I am afraid. Otherwise there are a dozen different factors you're just guessing on, not the least of which is whether or not your moderator design is worth a damn. :p The thing about airgun silencers is that things which look great on paper often don't work. ;) Developing them typically requires at least some trial and error. I hope that makes sense.

@Tweeter, yeah I'm looking at testing ~450-550mm length barrels. I saw Donny's adapter, but the goal would be to have it baffled internally.

@STO, don't overthink it. Step #1 - build something quieter than stock and DonnyFL's (the latter is no more than 5dB quieter than stock, at least on my Leshiy). If your PoC was successful - there's undoubtedly a market (albeit niche). My advice at that point is to send a working prototype to whichever distributors you think could push the product. Obviously, those of us subscribed to this thread should be granted the right to purchase one ahead of any production distribution:p

GAUNTLET THROWN DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p I can't wait until the moderator test HOPEFULLY later this week, and honestly have no idea how I'll do. I'd like to think I'll monster it, but that little voice of reason and humility on my shoulder says I'm going to get eaten alive. Either way though, there is a big difference between the big boys like Donny and Hugget and the crenelated angled disc design which comes in the stock leshiy. The latter I'm over-confident I can beat, the former I have nagging doubts.

Yeah I get what your saying STO. Just buy a Leshiy, we all know you want one anyway😉

DON'T TEMPT ME YOU MONSTER! I like my wife very very very much, and would like to keep her more than I'd like the second coolest gun of all time. :p

I hear you there haha! Second coolest gun of all time, what is the first?

Oh you're just trying to get me in trouble from all directions today eh? :p

So it is a matter of taste what the coolest gun of all time is. I don't want to argue the point, I don't mean to put down anyone else's gun or offend anyone, and I want to make it super super clear that it is just my own opinion and other people can and should feel differently. That said, I am very partial to the FX Crown. I was a bit "on the fence" about it as a design when I bought it, there were several other competing designs from all the usual suspects. Having owned it for a while now though, I'm impressed by the adjustability, modularity, simplicity, parts availability, large air volume, excellent performance, thoughtfulness of the layout, elegance of design, and purity of function. It is easy to work on, well thought out, highly adjustable, and is no more complicated than it needs to be but also not simplified to the point where it suffers for it. It is, in my very subjective opinion, the best air "rifle" out there. (that is to say something in the form factor of a full sized gun, rather than an air pistol or whatever the Leshiy is)

It is for similar reasons that I'm interested in the Leshiy actually. I have no need of a more compact airgun, but as far as compact airguns go it seems to me to be the best of all time. In a way it seems to be the ultimate expression of the Edgun philosophy which is to make the most compact airgun. It appears to be simple, modular, adjustable, have good parts availability, elegance of design, and purity of function. It is also why I am not exactly a big fan of the 350mm barreled Leshiys: you're taking something which is the absolute best at something, and improving one performance aspect to the detriment of that purity of purpose.

I hope that makes sense. And, again, just my opinion which is worth somewhere between nothing and a big steaming fresh camel pile.

The Leshiy is definitely a modern marvel of pure genius in simplicity. I have very few gripes, plastic valve stem being one of those gripes. Power-wise, I clocked a 25.39gr JSB at 942 out of the 350mm barrel the other night (standard Huma Reg). Now, I'm uber curious about how fast it would spit them out of a longer barrel, which I'm working on spec'ing out for it now.

For how short the factory LW barrels are, they're pretty damned accurate - I don't think anyone else would argue against that. A slug barrel, better moderator, and tank doubler would complete my build!
