A Penny For Your Thoughts Self Reloading Target

One of my buddies in our local airgun shooting group created a self re-loading target which fed Necco wafers. But they were kind of too big for any real challenge, and when shot they sometimes fragmented and jammed up the feeding.

So he made a new one which feeds penny sized targets - which makes for cheap shooting at only one cent per target (Necco wafers are expensive any more!) It holds and feeds about 25 targets per fill.

And we just use fake pennies, so no illegal destruction of U.S. currency here. Really.

That is a pretty cool device. It appears to have a slot running the length of the board that your "fake" pennies roll down, is that correct?

Yes, that is correct. Angle is important and we have found that it works best if the slot is deep enough where the 'penny' is just about even with the top of the slot, so stuff doesn't get into the slot to keep the 'pennies' from rolling down.

What are you using for the penny slugs? Would be fun to make something like this to keep the kids interested while shooting.

Any slug should work. Needs to be heavy enough roll down and push the next target into place. Slot needs to be wide enough to allow easy rolling, but narrow enough so one slug won't try to overlap the one below it and cause a jam. Based on what you use, you will need to test the angle of the ramp to make sure it works smoothly and reliably. I'm using the cheapest slugs I could find, which only cost one penny each.
