A look inside of a Hatsan Striker Vortex.

Came in a group buy. .25 caliber and would not cock. It looks like the gasram failed as the tail shaft is no exposed. The interesting thing to me is the piston seal, imbedded with what looks like copper debris.

Not uncommon for those rams to fail . They are cheaply made. There was a dude rd sealing them as the front seals are weak
The copper looking dust is a odd thing. Unless they brazed the pickle forks on and the honing reamer left that in there.
Sadly ,Hatsans are not made horridly ,just poor quality control and weak piston seals..
The Quattro trigger will never be a REKORD ,but with spring changes and some massaging it can be good for hunting
Another issue is the weight they use on there pistons. And the multiple coiled springs.
They can be worked on but a good bit of time and some machining helps if you know what to do.

Looking at your pic of the gas ram inside the piston, is that the way it came out of the comp tube when you took it apart?? The body of the gas ram doesn't go inside the piston and if it was, someone had that thing apart and either put it back together wrong or just tossed it all back in already knowing the ram was toast.
AGR already said it but the Hatsan rams tend to fail from lousy orings inside that brass cap the shaft rides in. There are 2 of them in there and when they dry out/wear out, away goes your air. They can be rebuilt if you're that bored and want to, You want new, I think Hatsan charges something like $45+ for one or you can just order the parts to convert it to a springer. Got your own lathe, I think it's the ARH E3650 spring that fits Hatsan rifles and make your own guides for it. He also makes piston seals to fit them:
Easy rifles to work on and with tune and a few tweaks to the trigger can be made pretty decent rifles for not a lot of money.

I’ve been into many rifles. None ,I mean none were overbuilt as Hatsans. The springs are exceptionally long and over coiled. The pistons weigh a ton.
You could use the 135 piston for a battleship mortar as it’s so big .
The spring could pass for a broom handle.. Albeit big and long Hatsans tempering is poor and there are far better spring options.

lighten things up a tad and get rid of those factory guides as stated .. use a delrin top hat with less coiled spring from Vortek.. look for a .125/.128 x.795 od and start around 35 coils maybe clip to size
Don’t be afraid to make a guide with a .300 pre load at the breech end.
