Penny and I have learned to hunt together this summer, disposing of chipmunks. She’s been running and finding chipmunks for me most of the summer; which I found amazing.
this week she did her second actual retrieve. However, it was beyond the call of duty on both ends. First, the chipmunk went flying when I hit it, Penny was on it like a dart. She went jumping over and under trees and branches until she had that thing in her mouth. Very cool.
it gets better. She won’t drop it. I can’t grab a possibly half dead varmint with a bare hand. Pheasant yes, a ground rat, no. Stalemate, then she jumps up on the tree in the picture, sets the chipmunk down, and looks at me. She knows I set them on trees. It started to fall the first time she set it down, and she re-grabbed it and dragged it back up to the middle of the tree trunk. Then she looked up at me like there you go.
we learned to walk on trees together when she was a little pup.
I was so proud of her when she reminded me of Marley.

No I don’t eat them, but if you want to try some, post your address.
