A good day for Air Gunning (graphic but not really)

But not for squirrels..

Yesterday I won a squirrel tournament open to rimfire and air only. Had my RAW .30 set up for close quarters and loaned the Cricket .25 to my teammate. He had never hunted with, or experienced a pcp Air rifle and was blown away.

*The 2nd place team were also Air Gunners! (FX bobcat and Benjamin Trail)

It was great. Everyone wanted to see our rifles and I was ecstatic to show them and answer their questions. Our “bag” - total weight for 10 squirrels was 20 lbs, 13oz.. That’s a top 5 weight at the biggest tournament of the year (that we missed) with 180+ teams.

The event was a fundraiser for a youth fishing club and we donated our winnings back to them. All of the meat went to a sportsman club for one of their upcoming dinners and the tails will find a new life on Mepps spinners. Everyone wins!

Well, except for the Limb Chickens..

"guod123"Congratulations nice shooting. Most of your good airguns easily out group standard .22's with inexpensive ammo.
Definitely. It’d be tough to compete against a dialed in, target quality rimfire though. But you can’t be running around willy nilly with a .22, hehe. We did well on smaller properties in semi urban areas. Most of mine came out of 6 acres of hardwood in an area where hunting (with firearms) would be frowned upon 😎

"budfarkus"Looks like a great time Brain, would love to have been involved in something like this....BTW,no worrys,I posted asking about caliber, I thought it was a .30cal Impressive !! I'm about to order a .25cal(60#) right now. Don't talk me outta of it...lol
Ha, I won’t try to sway you toward .30. I bought mine as a bench gun. Not the most nimble rig in the woods, but boy does it crush the target. My go-to hunter is a .25 and I love it. If RAW made a compact .25 I’d buy one in a heartbeat!

"zx10wall"Good job Brian, congrats. The Bushy looks right at home atop the .30 RAW.
Thanks, Derrick. You know I’ve had that scope at least 11 years. The 8-32x mil dots are impossible to find now. The RAW is only the 2nd rifle it’s been on! (Sorry, Air Ranger) Hope all’s well. Hope you’ve made a full recovery from your injuries(?) Keep in touch!

Brian

"MScottLeeman"Great Job! Sorry I couldn't make it as work has been busy as hell. (A GOOD THING!...new crown in my future???) However, Thank You for the invite! Please let me know when You have another shin-dig, I will make it a point to show up!
Mike
Ya know, @MScottLeeman you look an awful lot like my tournament teammate.. Spooky! Hope you can make it out sometime.

Not dogging ya. Just digging a little! Ha ha. I hunt state land too. Orange is mandatory. But mostly hunt on my family’s farms. I hate the orange garb while rat hunting. A reversible orange hat is nice. Glad Crow season just opened. Don’t get me wrong. I believe in orange Durning deer season. But what good does orange do if half the hunters are in full camo turkey hunting and the other half is in orange rabbit hunting? Or even in white while Yote hunting?
