A gently used HW95 is on the way.

A nice, used HW95 in .22 caliber will be in my hands in a few days. Those of you that have experience with this rifle and caliber, please tell me what to expect as far as, well, anything and everything.

Things like maintenance, accuracy, scope recommendations, best shooting techniques, good pellet choices, etc.

I have researched a little bit on the rifle, but it’s good to hear from real shooters in the real world.

What say ye?

If you researched any you sern the common run of the mill hw things. Get them in check and should be a solid shooter. Only thing is being used if any surprises pop up.

Like said sbove if your screws loosen as you shoot just a spot of blue loctite and tighten them down

Heres a chart of needed or tighten by your own feel ( per nced)

Ya, .22 not as forgiving as .177. Seems more bore size various and the larger..

You just buy and try pellets see what you like . If lucky cphp will do the job and not run loose.. you know my saying is " i dont mind a pellet picky gun as long as it picks cphp"

In that ( or any) hw unless the guy wrapped it around a tree or took a bastard file to its guts your not really going to be hurt. Most simple maintenance parts if need are available and easy to put in and all.

And plenty of help support in these forums too boot..

Wow! Thanks for all of this information folks. This is just what I need.

efem09...At this point I'm undecided on what scope to top it off with. A variable, medium power, side focus with holdover dots. It won't be used for any type of competition...targets and pests mainly. I don't care for "busy" reticles so it's just a matter of finding the right one to suit my needs.

Oh, and BTW...I am new to air rifling. This will be a new learning experience for DenBurk. 👨‍🎓

Yet another vote for H&N Field Target Trophies 14.6 .22 553 or 554 head size. German barrel / German pellets. AoA or Krale has the best H&N pellet prices.

DO NOT BUY PELLETS FROM MIDWAYUSA! They are a horrible pellet vendor, cannot stress that enough!

Surprisingly enough, Crosman domed 14.3 .22's work also in some rifles. My HW50 .22 likes them but the barrel gets dirty and accuracy goes to hell after a while.

I've been using the HW95 in .22 cal for about 7 years now and really like it alot. Quality on Weihrauch guns is excellent but they tend to come over lubed from the factory.
If the previous owner of the rifle has not done so already you may want to take it apart and degrease it and then apply a proper moly lube. Also check the main spring and piston seal for damage while you have the rifle apart.
Lots of info on u-tube on how to do all this.

I've had mine 7 years now. Shot Air Arms Falcons the best until they got too expensive, so now it's H&N FTT 5.54 head size. Has a Hawke Airmax 4-12x40 in BKL double strap rings. The Airmax was designed and built for spring piston airguns so you should have no problems with one if it's what you choose and I'm a fan of the AMX reticle they have and own 8 Airmax scopes, 7 of them on springers.
This is the AMX reticle:

'Gently used' Is that anything like the cream puff auto that the little old lady only used to drive to church on Sundays?:D

H&N FTT are excellent in mine but I prefer the JSB 15.89. Slightly less power but shot cycle is better. 18 grain is heavy for that power plant. I would think the Hawke mount is fine. I have an Athlon Talos 3-12 x 40 AO with mil-dot reticle on mine. Very happy with it and cheaper than a comparable Hawke. My screws are at 18 F, 25 F trigger and 15 R trigger. Out of the dozen or so air rifles we own this is still my favorite.
