I spent about 10 years looking for the ultimate Wiscombe To shoot field target with in my elder days. Unfortunately, I messed up my shoulders playing hockey, so the dream of shooting a springer as I get older in competition is pretty much gone.
nevertheless I had a lot of fun trying out different JW‘s. They are truly miraculous machines. Handmade works of art. This one has a field target stock, with a knee rest. I know of two that John made in that configuration. The stock is Hyuda (an African wood which I don’t know how to spell). It is an extremely hard and dense wood, and also quite beautiful.
I was talking to a fellow shooter about buying it from me, so I took some pictures and sent them to him, along with a couple of targets. I thought well I might as well post, and show the world what John’s rifles can do. The butt pad is not mounted on the rifle in the pictures. I had made a nice koa one for myself, And ended up giving it to a friend who is a veteran that had bought a 10 m rifle from me.
The targets were shot at 130 yards, five shots. And 50 yards, 10 shots.
It’s truly recoilless. If you set the rifle on a bench rest and pull the trigger it just sits there and the pellet flies out.
The model is a JW60. 177 caliber. About 15 foot pounds, unless you use the restrictor.
When I shot these groups I had a Bushnell sniper scope on it. 30 mm tube big heavy scope. Excellent glass.
