WELL I'M FINALLY FINISHED
Modifying a MOD 130S Vortex QE Breakbarrel it is a smooth bore 8mm shotgun. Here's some of the ammo. A paper casing. Holding 47.3 grains of shot The casing weight is 1.7

My concept is from the civil war. Buck and ball loads. But has been modified I also use it in my 28 ga Muzzleloader shotgun, the sabots are larger and use heavier gauge paper casing.

The cartridge is a thin piece of tubing made to 8mm there is a wad in the breach end. The case is cut in ten places around the top for crimping. They are filled with shot. Then they are crimped and a small drop of dopp wax keeps the crimp closed.

When the gun is fired it compresses the wad splitting the paper casing and opens the crimp. The barrel is slightly choked further opening the casing as it leaves the barrel

I had made some sabots in the 7.62 pellet size they shoot well in the rifled barrel of my MOD 130S Vortex QE and have a good spread up to about 30 or so feet more than that it will probably be ineffective.

Purchased another MOD 130S Vortex QE Breakbarrel to modify. My other is broke in and it's very fun to shoot.

I will be updating all of you soon on the progress, testing etc of my project shotgun.

The 15ft group looks useable. What was your inspiration behind the build? Squirrels? Targets? Just because you can? Lol. Not hating. I think it’s cool. Just wondering what your shooting for.

Because I wanted to build a break barrel shotgun. I will use it for everything you just said. I think after I tinker with the shot cartridges I will attain better patterns. I have already started on 3 new prototype cartridges to test. My hope is decent pattern at 25 ft.

I am also working on a ckoke for the barrel that can be threaded on or taken off.

Nice groups. There’s definitely more shot on paper. I’m assuming that’s a normal piece of 8”x11” paper. That last 25ft one looks like youre about where you want to be. The choke would probably tighten it right up. What size shot are you using just out of curiosity?

It shoots a little high. But we figured that out.

Have loaded with 9shot I will be testing other shot also. You can use any size. I just don't exceed the grain weight of 46.3 grains of a H&N 30 caliber pellet the 130 QE was designed to use.

That’s what I figured. As long as you keep the weight around stock pellet weight. You could fire pretty much anything. Kinda like the PBBA air shotguns on a smaller scale minus the pcp equipment. I’ve had my eye on one of the shotgun pistols for awhile. Just having the extra $1500 to blow. Sorry off topic. Just day dreaming. Lol.
