Daisy 853 Barrel Weight

After reading how good of a deal a referb 853 is through CMP, I have one on the way. I was looking to put the upgraded Daisy rear sight on it, which requires the upgraded globe such as the one on the 753 (which would also require the 753 barrel weight.) I've looked, but haven't been able to find the answer...how do you remove the barrel weight? And is installing/aligning pretty straightforward?

The barrel weight/front sight on my 853 is just held in place with two Allen set screws. I believe there is a flat cut int the bottom of the barrel, but it has been quite a few years since I’ve had mine off.

Ah - thank you - that makes sense. In the photo of the 853 barrel weight it shows a couple of set screws.

ha - thanks - I actually called them yesterday to place my order - despite the fact they have the 853-1 rebuild kit in stock, you can't find it on the website, even using the actual p/n (which is 169629-K00 if anyone is interested.)

I've had the barrel weight off of my 753S and it's like Bam86 described it. There's a flat on the underside of the barrel and when you snug up the two hex screws the weight self-aligns with the dovetail for the front sight at top dead center. Be sure to use thread lock, as those two screws tend to loosen up with use. The 753/853 rifles are great shooting guns, and easy to work on.
