70 Yard Jack Rabbit slow mo

Daystate Pulsar
16.5g Varmint knockers @ 894 fps / 29 fpe

Was out comparing slug accuracy, shooting at 56 yards, targets were .75" circles. Both the Varmint knockers in 16.5 and the 13.43 JSB Knockouts were great, very close. Anyway, 56 yards was the furthest I have shot the Varmint Knockers since I just got them yesterday and what do you know a rabbit hops within 70 yards. This is why I usually don't take shots unless I know where they're gonna hit at a certain distance and this was first time with the varmint knockers.

I broke my rule and figured I was sighted in at 56 yards so at 70 yards should only drop about 1moa, turns out it dropped 2 which is enough to go from a clean headshot to a jaw smashing shot. I aimed at the top of his head but above his eye, should have aimed above his head but back a little, that was 2nd mistake. So had to do a follow up, aimed at top of shoulder but which also hit exactly at the 2moa hashmark just like the first shot but I couldn't see exactly where they were hitting at the time, just knew they were a little low.

The follow up shot was low but just high enough to pass thru his heart, complete pass thru.
I looked for like 10 minutes for the slug, wanted to see what the Varmint knocker looked like after passing thru but couldn't find it.

nicely done , follow up's are necessary at times.

I'm liking this Daystate Pulsar I just got, only shot it a few times but now I think I'm sticking with the Varmint Knockers after testing about 6 different slugs and pellets. Now I gotta shoot from 10yards to 100 yards and everything in between to get to know my holdovers so this doesn't happen again, or at least less often.

Jacks are tough !!
Had one a few years in the backyard, 3 shots at @ 20 yards with all three passing right on threw his body while he sat there and hopped a couple times.
Upon skinning him out all 3 were inside @ 1 inch or so as heart lung shots and complete ice pick pass threws. Silly rabbit was dead on his feet at the first shot refusing to realize it. Odd and a true story !

that kinda reminds me of an opening morning hunt several years ago of an 8pt buck at 35yrds with a mouth full of ICP's...
i was using a pitbull (performance bulldog) shooting the benjamin .357 slugs.
deer was standing broadside of me so i took a heart shot......deer just standing there and i can see blood pouring out the exit side.
shot again and double lung'd him......he started walking around in circles, still eating!!!
finally he started wobbling and he fell. that was very odd, usually a mature buck like that would hall ass at a crack of a gun that close.
i guess he was just enjoying them ICP's

Great job! I'm surprised your shots all passed right through though.

SD jacks seem to cycle in population jumps - once in a great while. Those population jumps are rare and I only recall about 2 as I couldn't believe the number of jacks abound in the fields. There could have been more as life gets busy and depends what part of SD. For the most part, I rarely see any per 52 years as a resident. They actually look like a beefed up rabbit that might come after yah. Had dogs that once they noticed its a 'jack', they didn't even bother with the chase. Never taken a jack in all my years here ... different story on cottontails. Enjoyed the OPs postings (y) 🐇

These jackrabbits are about four times the size of cottontails out here, the cottontails out here in the desert are small

Some years we get Very lucky and come across a family of young jacks that have not quite figured out there in danger once out of their den .... As such become dinner for us
* These 3 harvested inside a couple minuets w/o moving from shooting position. Each came out one at a time from behind a brush pile curious i guess to what was happening to there siblings ?
