5s our limit

We got about 4” of new snow yesterday. It was wet and hung in the trees. I knew I was going to get wet but Deer season is over and I just wanted to take the Flashpup out for a change of pace. The squirrels were plentiful. Didn’t take long to get a limit. With the heavy snow hanging and then falling, none of the shots were far or much to brag about. But they were all head shots.

Yes. Good eye. I had to shim the rail to get more elevation from the scope. Had to do the same with my .22 Flashpup. Tonight I had to shim the new scope on my Wildcat. Was hitting dirt at 20 yards. I like to keep the scopes as close to center as I can. Don’t know if it makes any difference or not. But running out of elevaction while sighting in sucks.

Those are some nice fat squirrels for the pot! I looked at milling my rail to give it the permanent slope it needed but found these Burris XTR Signature rings and love them for keeping my scope's optically centered. They dial into the exact offset needed, and side to side offset is capable with the inserts..

Took another limit today with my new to me Wildcat MK3. It was 13* and dead still when I hit the woods. Just at daylight I had 12 or more Black, Grey and Fox squirrels all at one time come running my way. I have no idea what it was all about. They were chasing each other back and forth, up and down, everywhere. I was sitting on a log wearing my new snow camo. They were running and jumping on and off the log I was sitting on. I had one big Fox come right up to me. He was less then 6” from my gun barrel. I was so engrossed in watching them, I didnt even pull my gun up to shoot. When they finely moved on, I headed to the creek to hunt along a picked corn field. My first 2 were Greys using JSB 33.95 pellets. The last 3 were with NSA 35.5 slugs. Shooting at 910 FPS. I did see 5 other Black squirrels durning the hunt. But didn’t get a shot. It warmed up to 37* and sunny as I walked back to the truck.
