50lbs of duct seal = 5 targets

I made some targets and figured I'd share some pics since they turned out well.

Objectives: no pass throughs, quiet, durable (these will live outside until they fall apart), and somewhat portable (I expected 13lbs without the extra embedded lead),

I decided against the rubber mulch idea since Ive used it in the past and it seems to break down with use, allowing an air gap to form at the top.

Note: I know the materials aren't pressure treated, but I had them on hand.

Materials: a few 2x4s, 3/4" plywood, 1/2" EMT conduit (galvanized), 10lbs of duct seal (per target), hardware handle

The duct seal was order in 5lb bricks from Amazon. They were about 2" thick. Each target is 8.5"x11" and took 2 of the 5lb bricks each.

I experimented and found a point blank shot from my 60ft.lb. 25cal Impact (shooting 34g at 860fps) only penetrated the duct seal about 3/4".

I put 10 shots in the same hole and the lead just backfilled the initial 3/4" deep channel. It seems the lead will add to the stopping capability of the target.

I hammered the tops and bottoms of some galvanized EMTconduit and put 3 on each target so its supported a will sit off the ground.

The front of each target is covered with coroplast (plastic cardboard).

They should work well for my home range!

Nice targets you made there although you may want to angle the legs a bit, so they don't tip, if you shoot them with too much FPE. Duct seal is really good stuff. Very durable and it will take a punch. I have shot my 100fpe 9mm at some that was only 2 inches thick and it did not pass through. Although it did split the oak wood the trap is made from and several pellets in the same exact spot might be a problem with this gun. It's kind of a pain to clean but that doesn't need done often. If peace and quiet is what one desires this is the stuff. I use mine inside.

I made one that is very similar except that I made the wooden box to contain a Square D electrical box, because they are made out of a decent guage of steel, and put the duct seal in that. I have been shooting at this thing for 20 years, thousands of pellets, and man is it heavy now! Every now and then I lay it on its back and stomp the material back down flat. I have never emptied it or added more duct seal, it is half lead now. Never a concern about going through either. My airguns don't exceed 60fpe anyway so it's never going to happen. They are really awesome to have. I use mine mostly inside to shoot shot strings with my cheap little Aliexpress chronograph which has its own light source and always works and is tiny and fast. Can't beat the convenience of it.
