4K Slow Motion Squirrel Hunting...

This squirrel season has been nuts! So nuts, I haven't left my yard to get any. If I wanted to, I could take a limit every day, and there would still be tons everywhere.

I was walking to pickup one of my kids from school, which is about 3 blocks from my house. I lost count of the number of squirrels I saw on the ground, but they are literally everywhere! It's like this in every yard. Maybe I just never noticed, but I swear the population has never been this high.

In Volume 5 of the EDgun Leshiy Vs Squirrel series, I change things up slightly, and I'm using the Predator Polymag 26gr .25 pellet. It's a little slower than the JSB Kings, running about 520fps, or 15ft/lbs. I still get some passthrough, but I always assume this will happen, and wait for shots with a solid backdrop. This is why you see some similar shots (in my backyard at least). As always, with the right light, the ATN X-Sight 4K delivers the goods. The slow motion footage at 120fps is bonkers considering it's an all-in-on unit. No fiddling with focus on a camera, aligning some scope cam mount, or holding the gun in an awkward way that would make my grandpa slap me and ask WTF I was doing... just normal hold, look down a scope, and pull trigger (after pressing record button of course). I know the firmware has been a rough road, but at this point... the scope is pretty badass. There are still people bitching on the facebook owners pages, but it's about the dumbest stuff... and mostly human error. If you're on the fence, or are looking for a great day/night all-in-one scope... I highly recommend the ATN X-Sight 4K!

Anyways, here's me killing some squirrels...

If you're interested, here's the full setup with links to check things out:

Gun: EDgun Leshiy in both .25 and .177 (find a dealer in your region)
Barrel Length: Custom 280mm
Ammo: Shoots basically anything, but primarily I shoot JSB 25gr Kings and 26gr Polymags
Regulator: Hybrid HUMA setup... HUMA Sub 12ft/lb Kit Plenum, Valve, Valve spring, and hammer spring. Then I use the standard high-power HUMA regulator. Why? Sounds like you're a details person... scroll down, and get your fill.
Moderator: DonnyFL Emperor V3 and the the RONIN. I use the Emperor for backyard, and the RONIN for more pack friendly trup to the woods.
Scope: ATN X-Sight 4K Pro 3-14x and their Quick Release mount
IR Light: Streamlight TLR-1 IR
Bipod: Atlas
Rail Extension: Lion Gears 12 Slots 0.5" Low Profile Picatinny Rail
Custom Grip: You need to join the EDgun Owners Facebook group. Simply search for custom grip, and you'll find Steven Brown. He's your man.
Tune: 105bar on the reg, and then turned HST up to get to the following... JSB .25 Kings @ 545fps (16ft/lbs) and the Polymags @ 520fps (15ft/lbs)

Cheers,

Tim

Still waiting for my replacement scope from ATN. Sent the other one back due to persistent freezing issues every time I turned it on.

I'm hoping in the next firmware they can include the crosshairs on the 120fps videos.

I'm praying I don't get another lemon scope.

BTW, great video and shooting Tim! Looks like you'll be busy for the foreseeable future with those squirrels!

firmware updates are tricky... then you add ATN into the equation, and things get no so good in the early releases. 271 is pretty solid. I've had a couple issues, but nothing earth shattering. To be honest, I kind of like not having the reticle show up. It's pretty easy to edit in, and doesn't get in the way of the slow motion footage. I hope they make it an option.

Bummed for you, but I'm sure they will make it right.

I have a silly question.. You say you like the reticle not showing up? Is it etched in the glass and just not appearing on the recorded file, or is it completely missing in the 120 fps mode. In other words, can you as the shooter still see the cross hairs while aiming? Great vid by the way!

It’s a digital scope, so the crosshairs are not etched in glass. You can seen them fine while shooting, it’s just a bug while shooting in 120fps it doesn’t overlay them automatically on the video when recording. I actually have come to prefer this though, as it’s a simple post edit task, and allows you more control over the editing

Hi all! New to the forum. II just got my X-Sight 4K 3-14 a few weeks ago and managed to update to the latest firmware without issue. The only problem I had was no video stream to the Obsidian 4 app. Called ATN and they suggested turning off Cellular Data and sure enough, that worked. I am running the latest version of IOS on both devices I tried streaming to.

For now, I’ve mounted mine on my new Hammerli 850 Air Magnum for rat removal in my backyard (they’re too smart for traps). I will move it over to my powder burner for night time hog hunts as well.

Having only used break barrel rifles before, the CO2 powered Air Magnum with that Walther barrel is a dream to shoot. I chose it over HPA because I wanted a medium velocity rifle for backyard shots (15 yards and under).

BTW, there is an abundant population of fox squirrels around here too.

Regards,

Greg
