I remember it had a tiny screw as well . I bet same the gun was fine as pellet gun but you raise reg pressure hammer spring tension heavier weights and we all know things get alot more stress , I guess this screw should be checked , maybe it was loose and higher pressure was enough to launch it I donno , manybte uibt as a early one converted , I donno gun isnt here , I would of liked to see just happened , maybe I will get him and gun here and see and take pics if i can .I let you know . as I also want to know for me.

Maybe people here who do make hi power guns should maybe upgrade it and also make some sort of plate just incase . I mean like if it had a steel plate it cant do it either . Like I said It probably was a combination of things but got to now be sure it doesnt happen again

seating slugs is harder if not sized properly but . this was not a thing of over time as this was his first day shooting this here . he had not tried slugs prior , he did have an impact but I am not sure if it was same one or he upgraded all I know is both were black

I remember someone (you? Don't recall) mention a pellet probe potential danger in another post. The only thing I can think is a broken bolt and the but pad down.

If the bolt that holds the pellet probe get loose, the impact will not cock.

If a slug get stuck in the barrel and and the bolt broke + the but pad was down, might me the reason for the pellet probe fire back. Is a weird combo, but can happen, i had rabbit magnums stuck in the barrel and the air got stuck in the barrel, went out after cocking from the back

Hope your friend get well soon :(

I believe if you do not extend the Impact’s adjustable shoulder pad down, but keep it retracted, it should act as a rubber buffer. I do have concerns about the impact’s probe launching like a SpaceX capsule, hence I locktite the grub screw and check it every few hundred rounds. But if it shears, the only thing stopping it from hitting my shoulder is the rubber buttpad.

I do wonder if the Impact MK2 has a stronger probe/grub screw? Without that, I can’t imagine it handling a 35 cal pellet at much higher pressures....

My WAR Flex launches the 35 pellets and slugs around 150fpe to over 200+fpe, but it is much more solidly built. I can’t imagine that small grub screw on the impact’s probe can handle that kind of stress without shearing off at some point.

The set screw sheared off. It broke into two pieces!

It did not come loose and prevent the gun from cocking. This occurred while cocked and during firing. Reg set at 150 Bar!

I had the same thing happened to me with my 1st GEN except I had the rubber butt pad all the way up so the probe hit the butt pad. My ear was ringing bad as if I just shot a firearm near my ear. I now wear one ear plug on my gun side ear.

The 1st generation impact had an inferior alloy as well as a set screw that was too short (3mm x5? vs 2nd Gen 4mm x7). I emailed FX USA and they sent me what looked like 2 longer stainless steel superior quality set screw. I was going to do the Ernest Rowe double set screw mod but didn't feel like taking the gun apart, but if I do I will implement the mod. Ernest went as far as to add another set screw (4mm) opposite the original. He even added another security/safety screw to hold the probe in the event of set screw failure.

FX has since upgraded to 4mmx7mm superior alloy set screws. First GEN owner's should upgrade this probe set screw.

A know design defect and a "strong bolt" is not a fix for design defects. But it is the latest greatest most hyped ever so give em pass. There was anther airgun maker once with a similar problem ( and NEVER any issue EXCEPT for 1 owner modded for power unit) that maker scraped the design instantly and sold nothing until safety - even from ourselves- was assured. The good ole days.

UPDATE ON IMPACT

I went to visit friend today and see how he was , I brought him a pie for Easter . well > The Impact is gone . His wife I guess called where he got it and sent it back I guess screamed at guy saying he should of tested it , she was still pissed when I got there he was fine I think he was sad the gun is gone and I think he was a bit embarrassed his wife called place and screamed at guy . I told him hey just get another gun . you mite of had ocd thoughts with that one every time u loaded it to shoot again I know I would . I really wanted to take pics and see reg setting and see his slugs to see why it happened for you guys and me , but I did find out he bought gun . from a gun shop and it was tuned and " Hunt Ready ", for SLUGS .I asked what gages read He said one gage was 220 bar the other was 155 bar this seemed fine to me . hmm , I asked was it x barrel or mk2 he said no It was prior to x but updated for slugs , my guess is slapped in a barrel and this is it I donno . I did ask to see ammo he has 23 to 30 gr slugs which seems fine . I use heavier in mine 30 to 36 grain for me

Maybe it was a fluke . I mentioned screw he said he didnt know all he knew is he shot 1/2 a mag before it failed . so if screw was missing it would of not did past 1 , I said did it have a butt pad? he said yes he adjusted it I said up or down ? he said down
