4500 PSI Compresor

I've had excellent performance out of my Benjamin ReCharge, but I've only put 14 hours on it so far. Can be used for filling guns directly, or larger tanks.

I really liked my Hill EC-3000, especially since it was easily portable, quiet in operation and intelligent. But unfortunately it failed after less than 1 hour of use and had to go back to Pyramyd Air. They refunded me without issue.

Other than that I have only had experiences with a $200-$300 little Chinese compressor purchased off Amazon (non water-cooled type). Internal cooling fan failed pretty quickly so I installed 2 fans on the exterior of the housing. Gave it to a friend, and as far as I know it is still working.

Get anything with a 4 year protection plan from Wal-Mart preferably a Yong Heng. They may refund your money after it breaks within 4 years and then you order $50 parts from Aliexpress to fix it yourself. Buy another after the first one breaks with again the 4 year protection plan to start a new cycle and have a spare Or try something different main thing it's got a 4 year warranty protection plan..

You don't want to and up with a several hundred dollar paper weight with no recourse.

I had high hopes eyeing the Hill Compressor for reliability but...

Benjamin traveler looks to have fair odds but it's still a Chinese made compressor. I would buy one for sure if it came with a 4 year warranty though. The one year warranty isn't enough for the price to have something disposable IMHO.

I think that the Yong Heng is near the best out there for under 700-$1000 and it's only a bit over $300. Old video but it werqs.

The Yong Heng "simple version" least expensive does not have a water separator you need one.

The "auto stop" version shuts off near 3000psi.

So you likely want the "Hardcover" or 'Set pressure' versions your choice on the 110V or 220V.

Keep them cool, the oil topped off, to the red circle in the sight glass and don't fill past their spec which I think is 4350psi, a little less is better than the max, and the Yong Heng should last for years unless you get a bad one. I ran one of mine for a couple of minutes without oil OOPS! I did my first oil change at about an hour far longer, between changes, after that.

I have two YH compressors bought the second as a backup for the first as I fergot to turn on the coolant pump several times and overheated it until it smoked. I added a switched outlet to the system so it turns the pump on before the compressor will power up to keep me from doing that from now on. The second one, my back up unit, died in about two months bad QC from the factory. Cost me a $12, for a new second stage piston, and an hour to repair it. The #1 unit that I was worried about just kept on filling my guns and tanks till I got #2 repaired and retired it.

I do not fill past 4200psi as when I do, all too often, I blow a burst disc. This does not happen on the first or second fill but soon thereafter.

The temperature sensor only measures head temperature so running it much over 20-30 minutes can overheat the motor and other parts even if ice is used in the coolant. Ice, or a container of it, in the coolant is a good idea especially if you are like me and do not use the full five gallons of water as suggested in the manual.

Keep your water supply level with the compressor to be kind to the pump and assure a good supply of coolant goes through the compressor.

Keep your moisture filters, guns and tanks being filled above the compressor to help keep the moisture out.

Purge the system of moisture for a couple of seconds every five minutes while in use.

Change out your small YH filter every twenty minutes and set the old one out to dry and use later.

Add a better filter to be sure more moisture is removed from the system. Many of us use this Tuxing three media filter although, if you feel the need, you can change media types at any time.

Bleed the pressure before you turn the unit off and let it run a few seconds to get the better part of the moisture out of the system. I have found that I blow less burst discs if I bleed before shutting down so I do this religiously.

Let the coolant pump run for a few minutes after shutdown to cool things off.

Here is a video on how to fill a SBCA tank.

The Omega Trailcharger looks good also and is water cooled so it should do better in the longevity arena than some of the less expensive air cooled units out there. It is a fully contained unit and a bit more portable than the Yong Heng.

AEAC did a review on it here;

I just had to replace my Chinese YH clone, which worked good for about two years, because it was failing to build pressure and the little circuit breaker on the side kept popping and shutting off the machine. Then the CB fell apart! I replaced it with 20A fuse but it kept tripping the CB in the extension cord. With all that, I decided it wasn't worth trying to fix and started looking for a replacement. After a lot of online reading I went with the Omega Air Charger from Airguns of Arizona ($1,149.99). Super quiet compared to the Chinese job and it doesn't vibrate all over the place. The gauge can be set to shut off at whatever pressure you desire. It's cooled with a water and antifreeze mixture from a tank built into the machine and not a big bucket of ice water. It's also a lot faster. It filled my FX Wilcat MK2 from 100 bar to 250 in a couple of minutes, which took the Chinese job about twelve. If you do go with the Chinese YH, you definitely want to get some additional filtering. That little can with two foam plugs that comes with it isn't enough to clean out all the moisture and oil.

Oil-less water-less pumps are not made to last and have a very short duty and life cycle due to overheating during regular use.

Thus DISPOSABLE... that's why a 4 year protection plan warranty is a no brainer when buying these types of compressors.

Biggest headache is if and when they fail right after the manifacturers' 1 year warranty mark had just expired thus the added 4 year protection plan is an absolute must.

I even had a Chinese $2000 Omega Supercharger (before they lowered the price of course) fail on me when I bought it years ago. After several back and fourth shipping it ended up my total loss of $2000 plus shipping after UPS lost it and didn't honor the $2000 insurance I paid so ended up to this day not even a broken compressor but absolutely nothing to show for in the end but that's how life really works and lucky I could afford to lose over $2000 at that time.

Yup a nicer way of saying disposable it was. ;^). Ouch you got ripped off big time on that transaction! That is really sad. I try not to buy anything I can't afford to loose myself cause it can happen and you can prove that. I have been had on a few Chinese items myself but only for $70 and under. But at least I have the defective garbage in my possession. It reminds me of who not to deal with.

Was doing some research today and I really like the Nomad II. I see them filling up 3000 PSI rifles, but my FX Crown is 4500 PSI I believe. I think they said that you should not run it over 15 minutes. If that's the case, it would probably take at least that long on my FX Crown.

I guess I really don't have to fill it all the way up to 4500 PSI though.

Any thoughts, or anyone have any experience with this unit that they could share with me?

Thank you

Knowledge and "SEARCH FUNCTION" is good... Be sure to get an outside party or Wal-Mart type 4 year extended warranty type-consumer protection plan at the same time of compressor purchase since their typical 1 year factory warranty simply isn't enough for ANY sub $2500.00 4500psi compressor IMHO...

If and when it breaks and if you didn't buy the 4 year protection plan then at least I did my part right here right now... Besides it's YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY... Everyone has a right to willingly and proudly and happily throw away their own money whenever they want or pay way more $$$ for the same quality (OR LACK OF) items compared to the smart shopper.

If I were a gambling man to insist on a cheap sub $2500 compressor and opt not to pay for the 4 year protection plan I would just buy one (same targeted model) from Aliexpress from China for about up to half the price under different labels when shopping smart say around $250 shipped or so. Won't hurt as much when it gets dumped into the trash bin because it will break the same as the one you pay double the $$$ for with 1 year warranty. I would buy TWO of them and the extra for a backup spare. Then when both break hopefully you can use 2 broken ones to make 1 working one if the same part didn't fail on both units. Saves sending back and throwing away shipping and insurance money and worst of all the down time where you end up having nothing to fill your gun with while sent out under warranty that's a bummer.

Now with the 4 year protection plan chances are that they tell you to just keep the broken one and they just send you a brand new replacement for free. Now at least you got parts! Continue the cycle every 4 years and be sure to always always always pay the extra $$$ for the 4 year protection plan. I MEAN ANY brand of sub $2500 compressor here. You stick it back to them because you are the actual victim with not so good odds on the product's longevity.

Now add up the $500-$700 you pay every 1.5 years or 2 years maybe even only 1 year plus one day past warranty throwing away these disposable compressors by not buying the 4 year protection plan... Say 4-5 years worth of doing this you could have bought a $2500 Coltri MCH6 or $3000 Alkin and even sooner if you paid for the $1299 models.

People can state it works perfect for them when in new condition early stages with low mileage and even may do a nice video review on them but it's long term reliability that's the unknown here. Havent ever seen any long term reviewers revisiting their compressors they used daily on a personal level. What about those $1299 AV compressors reviewed a year or 2 ago? Do they actually use them daily and why no followup long term updates?

If I were to buy something based on a game of chance I would try this but I'm not a gambler... Sure looks familiar $1299-$1300 compressor from somewhere (at least 2 USA branded companies). Don't know why it's in Japanese though.

I really didn't think this was going to be so difficult, but it is. Right now I have the big 98 cubic foot tank at this time. In the past I have been filling my Air Arms S510 with it. Now I have purchased my FX Crown, and see its tank holds up to 250 bar instead of the 190 bar that the S510 did. Quite a difference. Also the fire department that use to fill it has decided not to do it anymore.

So either I get my own compressor or find a new source for air. I was hoping to get by with a compressor for less than a grand, but so far what I have read most of the compressors in that range should not be used for filling a large tank like mine.

I may have to opt for something a lot more expensive.

I really enjoy airgun shooting, but I highly doubt if I shoot over 500 pellets in any given year. Doesnt seem to justify buying a 2000 dollar compressor. But I will if I want.

I am going to see if I can find another air source that is close by first.

If you shoot only 500 pellets a year, get one of those $225-$400 direct fill oil-less compressors and fill your rifle directly, Do not use your big tank. Or have your tank filled up and then add once a week 10 minutes worth of air into it with the direct-fill compressor to keep it topped up.

My tank is 88 cu ft. It doesn't seem worth it, or logical to purchase a compressor. I know this. It just would be nicer to have my own air supply. I have some thinking to do about this. I feel if I can find a reliable air source in my area, that will probably be the way I will go.

I will run a post later on today to see if I can find someone in my area...

Funny that the YH is advertised as a 4500 psi compressor, but only goes to 4350. There is only one place I can find in my state that will will fill a tank, even then only to 3000. It's a dive shop, in a state that doesn't have any place to even dive at. Weird. I might head down to one of the fire departments to see if they will fill my tank. We will see.
