I was testing different configurations today and shot these three groups.one after the other. All shots were in the same sequence. Pellets were "as is" from the tin. I did not even check skirts.

Wow. You certainly know how to shoot springers! Such amazing consistency. Were you using two bags and a light hold on the rifle? I’m still struggling to be consistent with my HW30 at 25 yards. I’m deadly with it off hand shooting at 8 yards from the recliner lol! But I’m not consistent at 25 yards off of bags. That’s some great shooting right there. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent shooting!!! Looks great.

Like you, I NEVER sort pellets. I'm always amazed at the extent people go through to size and weight sort pellets. I keep saying one day I'll do QC check and size/weight sort my pellets just to see how much that affects my accuracy. I put all pellets downrange, even distorted skirts go into my targets.

Today, I shoot as is as well..however when I was competing in FT then I did go thru my pellets to sort out the bad ones. Fun shooting or serious competition makes a big difference !!! Many fellow airgunners have become serious accuracy fanatics....like I used to be!!

YES Excellent shooting!!

I have "found" what i would term floating hold , where you barely touch the gun . hands just touch the stock and just hold at the shoulder not press into it HW97k .177 / 11.6 FPE

Works for me
I agree when you have springers around that 12 fpe, however when moving into magnum spriingers, a firmer hold is usually required !! Smooth shot cycles in springers make them far less hold sensative, but when it kicks like a mule, ya gotta hang on !!

I get that. When I'm hunting/pesting I don't use deformed skirts. For me, I find that is one of the biggest influences to accuracy. Accuracy is paramount to humane kills, so I don't mess around there...

I study how and why sorting works. I don't usually sort BUT when I want to improve my groups beyond what I normally need. I sort using the YRRAH table. It makes a significant difference, usually averages on the order of 20% smaller groups. It is not simply a matter of building a table and having at it though. You have to learn how to release the pellet consistently to get good results. That takes some practice.

Sometimes you can get pellets that will out shoot your rifle, but not very often if you have an accurate rifle. It is kind of off topic but I believe that sorting by rolling and then weighing will hit all the points on a pellet where consistency can be improved. Never have done both at the same time because I can't justify the effort, as I don't shoot in competitions.

In this case I didn't even check skirts as I was making other changes to the rifle which would have masked anything I got out of sorting. I was changing barrel length by adding spacers between the barrel break and the barrel proper. That rifle is shooting fairly well now but the darn Hawke is changing zero more or less at random...
