I've been shooting chipmunks and squirrels at 6 yards and under using my 10M pistol, as my .177 rifle scope doesn't focus in / turret adjust down under 5 yards. I have no problems with a immediate kills on a headshot, but was getting pass throughs and not immediate takedowns on chest shots. Just .177 holes where I point, as there is 0 expansion on Predator Polymags (.177 8 grains) at that speed (490-500 fps).
So, I wondered what would happen if I flipped the polymag and fired it backwards. Impressive results below on 10% ballistic gel. Firing normal orientation, the pellet keeps it's .177 size. Fired backwards, they open up to .268 and stops at about half the distance (~1.5" down to ~0.8") into the gel!! Accuracy at this range is not impacted.
I followed up the test on a chipmunk and got a small entry hole with a large exist hole with its internals now being externals. Didn't think we needed a picture of that, but could post if needed.
