Finally built my steel plate to place out at 310 yards. It ended up being 24”x22”. Painted it black, a little white at the corners if the sun were going down.
Takes about 25 minutes to walk around the lake to get to the target. It’s all marsh.
The plate is just off to the right of the tree laying into the water.
Wind was blowing 5 - 15 mph and cause I’m in a valley the direction swirls. I didn’t even try a 44g pellet. Decided to try a 49.5g Nielsen slug. Took about 3 shots in the water (about 15 yards in front of the target) to figure out where the slug was going. It was shooting about 12” to the right. Now it’s trial an error for holdover. After about 10 more shots I hit it. I was able to hit it 4 times out of about 8 shots in the wind. Problem is I can’t see where the hits are through the scope. Couldn’t believe it. Here is a bad picture, shot through my spotting scope set at 45x.
4 hits on the left side of the plate at 310 yards with a Daystate Safari, .30 cal with Nielsen slug. Amazing what we all are doing stretching these things out. Once I get a day with no wind I’ll try for a 44g JSB.
