I’ve been interested in the 300’s for some time. I’ve read posts here on airgun national and have watched some of Joe’s videos on them. The people who have them seem to love shooting and having them. I’ve never shot one or even seen one in the flesh. I combe the local (Australian) airgun classifieds and they come up rarely. I had thought to myself if a nice example ever appeared I should enquire.

One came up in the classifieds and it was there a while. I’d go searching for the add to see if it was still for sale almost daily. Well today I rang and spoke to the seller. It was his fathers gun and been in storage over 20 years. Made in ‘76. His father had made a wooden case around the styrofoam the gun had come delivered in. The add only had one not so flattering photo so I asked him to send some more. I have to say when I saw the photos I got quite excited. It looked to be in excellent condition. I rang back and made a deal.

This will be a whole new adventure as I’ve only shot pcp’s before. It will be a week or so before it arrives but I look forward to seeking out advice from the wealth of experience here on how to get the best from it when it gets here.

Here are the pictures (didn’t want to come below the text.....)

Can anyone tell me is that a cleaning rod in the case above the gun?

That is the best one I have seen this day and age. I bought one back in May. Awesome shooters. The best pellet up close has been the H&N Finale Match 8.18grs. It also shoots RWS R10, RWS Meisterkugeln, JSB Exact Diablo 7.87grs very well. I have shot 5 shots through the exact same hole at 16yds. It is a 10m gun. But it will shoot at greater distances and rival most guns out to say 40yds.

Oh my! That's beautiful and you are a lucky man to have the opportunity to be the caretaker of this lovely rifle. If that's a cleaning rod, please don't use it. Get one of those pull-through cleaning "rods" or make one using a loop of heavy fishing line. After being stored for this length of time, you may want to install a new breech seal and buffer on the end of the piston. I'm envious!

Thanks guys. Thank you to those who offered advice I appreciate it. Hopefully I’ll have it end of next week or early the week after. I’ll post some more photos

Joe if I can ever get it to shoot like that I’ll be a very happy man. I can see why you started shootings nails. Putting 50 shots through that tiny hole must have got boring!

Looked up the serial number and it was made in 1972 I think that was the first year the 300s was produced

A question The small wire bipod that the 300s is often photographed with Its not to shoot the gun off by the look? Is it just to work on it Is it a Feinwerkbau item?

Hey James I just hope it is as good on the inside as it looks on the outside The seller thought the add had expired I’m sure if it had been advertised in the UK or the USA it would not have hung around for long I didn’t know you owned springers This is my first

Regards Michael

Yea, you know Joe likes to say he's not that good of a shot. But 50 shots through that hole. I'd love to be that bad a shot! I'm sure my 300s would do that also, but not with me shooting it.

But my 300s sure looks great after following Joe's instructions on refinishing the stock with MinWax. Maybe I should follow his instructions and refinish the metal also. Love Joe's videos.

Yea that cute looking tiny bipod you typically see in photos of FWBs for sale are for display purposes.

That is one heck of a first springer!

I shot a 10M off hand match this week and one of the other 300 shooters had the small bipod on his rifle. He used it to keep from laying the rifle on it's side between rounds, personal preference I guess. I just laid mine back in the case after each round.
