30-Yard Challenge

I worked hard on getting the yard done and salt for the softener before the rain moved in. I did it fast enough to shoot two rifles. I was thoroughly sweating but I still had a go.
Air Arms S200 177 I scored a 190
Daystate Revere 177 I scored a 191

I’m still not happy with my rest stability.
85 degrees with a feels like a lot more. 18mph SE wind.

But I got to shoot two cards! So it’s a win.

I've had that happen too. With my P35-25 it is less of an issue. That gun will give me another dozen shots off reg that are no more than 20 fps lower. But that is unusual. I think it was my P35-22 last time it happened and I went from 10s to 8s due to the elevation impact of the lower velocity.
The revere has plenty of shots for a card, but I took too many shots trying 10.3’s and a different moderator. Bad estimation on my part.
I also used the magazine for that card, normally I use the SST.
Luckily the 30YC is ongoing, so there is always tomorrow haha

Pellet Report: .177 AEA 13.7g

Shot these cards with testing a new pellet - the AEA .177 13.7g. The pellet seems identical in shape to the 13.4g FX/JSB/AA soft lead pellet.

The AEA .177 pellets (8.72g, 10.3g and 13.7g) load smoothly like JSB pellets. Much smoother than JTS pellets seem to load.

Nothing for the leaderboard, but really solid scores - especially the 197 Masters card today. The 199 14X 30-Challenge card was an "adventure" - shot over two days with drastically different conditions - I actually got chased into the house by a thunderstorm yesterday with #7, 9, 10, 11 and 12 still to go. I had to bump the power wheel up one click today to get similar velocity to what I had yesterday - as today its about 15 degrees cooler.

I always feel that I do best with 10.3g pellets in .177. I've had some great scores with .177 13.4g JSB/FX/AA - but I feel that I get more "fliers" with the 13.4g (even keeping velocity in the "optimum" 800-820fps range for this particular pellet). The "fliers" I get are typically "droppers" - the shots will drop way lower - at the edge of the 9 and sometimes into the 8 ring.

It could just be in my head.

In any case, my initial testing with these AEA 13.7s did have a few "droppers" - but not very many. At this point I can't say for sure whether the 13.7 AEAs are more consistent than the 13.4 JSBs, but they have done at least as well. My tune on this Crown is probably sub-optimal for .177 - as I'm running a reg pressure of 120bar (at least that's what the FX gauge is saying). Probably could have a better extreme spread with a reg pressure of about 100bar.

To date, I've only tested the .177 AEAs in FX barrels. I will try to see how they do in the Akela at a later time.

Since 13.x grain pellets seem to be the main pellet for Field Target shooters, I hope you find this mini-review helpful.

Gave it a try with the Light Rifle we will be using at Worlds.

Thomas electronic strike rifle
12fpe JSB 8.44 @ 775
Sightron SII 36x

200 20x

This gun looks kinda dumb with the 15" barrel but it will save us from carrying 3 full guns to Finland. The short barrel is needed to make Light rifle weight of 10.5 lbs. We are using my 50m unlimited slug chassis and switching out the barreled action for Light and Heavy 25m.

Shot only two 30Y Masters cards today. Wind was almost zero.

I had a bad Breech O-ring that I replaced yesterday on the FX Royale .22, which is the PUR 70. The gun was having some accuracy issues, and I think the O-ring was starting to deteriorate. When I took the barrel off, the cracked O-ring was in the chamber coming out. I told Ed coincidentally that I noticed the other day, that the JTS 22.07g was hard to chamber. I normally have a buttery smooth cocking lever close, not so with this pellet.

FX Royale .22
JSB Lights 20.83g
Athlon 10 X 40 X 56mm @ 35x
Zero wind
Velocity: 864 and 869 FPS

198-15X
200-16X ( First ever 30Y 200 with a Masters) LEADERBOARD for July.

Have a great 4th!

Mike,

What I wouldn’t give to shoot a card like this! I think I would sell all the guns, the Liberty Safe, all the scopes, 20,000 pellets …..and declare ‘Victory’ for this hobby.

Very nice, particularly fascinating with an 8g. Pellet at 775 FPS.

Electronic strike?🤙, for all three disciplines? Awesome card/cards!

It must be 200 day... as I just shot the lowest "X" 200 that I've ever seen ...!

Fantastic cards Mike and Tommy! Mine is not so precise, but its at 40 yards - windy day - and with the first 30 or so AEA 18g pellets I've shot.

Leaderboard Submission:
Target: 40-Challenge - 200 12X
Rifle: .22 FX PowerPup (600mm Superlight Barrel - reg pressure shows 120-125 bar - DFL Tanto .25cal moderator)
Pellet: AEA 18.3g (not sure of velocity, but PW on 16 with 18.13g JSB is usually 900-910fps)
Scope: Sightron SII 36x fixed power

It was a bit windy (wind was 7-13mph), but I thought I'd give these new AEA 18.3g a try. The PowerPup (a Dreamline variant with a huge 80cc plenum) didn't really like the AEA 21.9s yesterday - which surprised me. It shot 180 4X 40-Masters with the AEA 21.9s in better conditions than I had today. The PowerPup really likes JSB 20.83g, so I'm surprised it didn't like the AEA 21.9g.

The second row was all 10s - trying to figure out the wind. I used the iPhone magnifier to verify all were 10s. Its possible that 9A was also a 10 - I scored it a 9, but even with the iPhone magnifier, its really hard to determine. Not sure what an "Official Scorer" like Ricky would do on this one. It any case, I didn't need target pair #9 for the 200 score.

The 12X leaves me room to try to improve this 200 before the end of the year, lol... maybe with the AEA 18.3g..

8pm after a strong cell came through winds right down to under 5mph! Old red did shoot a 200-19x 🤷🏼‍♂️ (I recounted the 10 as a 9? ) is what it is… if it’s acceptable I would like to count it for record? Old yellow an 199-17x. after those 2cards I shot this target card that has a hundred bulls on them I shot 50 of them. The x is the same DIA. As the 30-40yd masters 10x
