30-Yard Challenge

I got the “shooting” gear I wanted from Santa… a precision laboratory Linear X-Axis stroke… from AliExpress:

1PC X Axis Linear Stage Stroke 50MM 80MM 120MM Fine‑Tuning Precision Sliding Table Micro Manual Translation Stag

Its 50F here, sunny and mild breeze. I have overnight company at my house, but they were cool with me shooting a card…lol.

So I tried this device out - PHENOMENAL - for precision adjustments Left and Right.

Paired with my precision laboratory lift, I’ve now got an amazing level of control of the crosshairs from the bench:

High Precise Z-Axis Manual Lift Platform 120x80 Aluminum Alloy Lifting Table 55mm Optical Sliding Lifting Displacement Platform

I ran out and shot this 40-Challenge card with this new setup - rushed through it in 5 minutes - two shots were accidental (resulting in 9s) - I’m not joking… and still shot 194 10X. Didn’t want to spend much time shooting on XMas Day.

I highly recommend this equipment. They are high precision and extremely well made - heavy solid aluminum.

Between the two lab devices and under the bottom I use these sticky sunglass mats:

STANLEY S4006 4.5" x 6.5" Extra-Strong Anti-Slip Grip Dashboard Gel Pad for Cell-Phone, Tablet, GPS, Keys or Sunglasses, Pack of 4 https://a.co/d/fNJ1gBa

I’m happy to answer any questions- just shoot me a PM.

Couple cards today! 193-9x, 194-10. RAW TM 13.4’s (JSB)

What distance were you shooting Joe?

Also what scope and magnification?

I shot two cards today - in light rain.

I cleaned barrel on FX crown and moved scope slightly back towards butt - hoping for a great score. Alas, these are good scores at 40 yards (40-Challenge cards) but I was not happy with the way I was squeezing the trigger today, crosshairs moving on a number of shots.

If the rain lets up, perhaps one more card, lol…

Verified my 40 Yard distance as I moved my shooting table slightly - 120.83 ft to target.

Shot four 40Yd-Challenge cards today - in light drizzle rain - 45F - mild breeze :

FX Crown:
193 9X
192 10X

FX PowerPup:
184 7X (H&N Baracuda Mth 21g @ 833fps)
177 5X (FX 18.13g @ 877-881 fps)

The 177 card was super consistent on chrono with 4fps spread over the 24 shots. Was getting PoI shifts - not sure why)

Hope you guys are getting some lead downrange. Still some time to get on 2023 Leaderboard, lol !!

There is still time left to get on the 2023 Leaderboard – get some lead downrange this weekend!!

Thanks Ed.

Re. Original 30Y Challenge:

If I counted correctly, there were about 35 ‘200’ scores since March 2022. Seven of those were ‘perfect scores;’ with twenty ‘X’s! About half were shot with .177’s vs. .22 calibers.

You almost shot a ‘200 perfect 40Y Masters card’ with that MK2 - 197-17X.

This 40y Challenge and Master challenge is a beast, and thanks again for doing all the work to keep it all going!

I’m glad to do it Tommy.

I’m up to 12 PCPs now. Bought 7 new and 5 used. Also have one incredible springer HW97 blue laminate. Some I bought just to tear apart (Cayden and Akela) to learn how to airgunsmith.

Most all were bought on faith.. in a variety of online reviews - most of which show a few choice groups as a demonstration of a rifles accuracy.

This Challenge is a wealth of real data. We always use the same target - and at “real world” pellet gun distances (30 & 40 yards). I personally believe that most guys buying pellet guns are planning to use them from 50 yards and in. So our Challenge data is very relevant to most guys use cases for their shooting.

We are starting to see certain rifles, pellets and velocities show up multiple times on these leaderboards. Hopefully this data will help folks make the best buying and decisions regarding accuracy when choosing and tuning rifles and pellets.

There are more than 35 200 scores since March 2022. MReynolds for example has shot multiple 200s with the same rifle, but only the best 200 (most Xs) shows on the leaderboard. He can probably shoot close to 200 every card with those Thomas and Mac-1 rifles.

Finally, my 40-Masters was a 198 17X, lol. I shot 9’s on the 1st and last targets, 18 straight 10s (almost all X). It was incredible. I think I had back-to-back 197s at 40-Masters as well on those “perfect” wind days.

I’m glad Randy sold me his Crown, it’s definitely more accurate than most rifles. He also sold his .25 Crown (I should have bought both) and was switching to an Evol. We have not seen any Evols shoot our challenge. Perhaps because most are .30s. I believe some are .22s. They are made in USA. I’ll have to ask Randy how he likes his.

Shot some 40Y Regular Challenge cards today. I shot some previous 40Y Masters cards, but this was my first time shooting the regular 40Y challenge.

Pretty cold, but zero wind. A rare occasion as this outdoor range.

I will submit the 195-7X for the first RAW attempt at 40Y regular challenge. As you will see my scores started falling off in subsequent cards so I cleaned my barrel with 5 or 6 patches, removed some visible led sediments and then shot a tight 5-shot group before I left.

Happy 2024 Tommy !

Nice card , you can submit as a 193 8X 40-Masters. To submit as a 40-Challenge card you need to have 20 targets shot that count - you only have 16 once you cross out two pairs.

I did not realize the 40y challenge doesn’t have 4 mulligans, like the 30y challenge. Did the rules change for 40y challenge?

It’s ok either way, but I did not understand that 4 bulls could not be mulligans for 40y.
