30-Yard Challenge

This is a 30y with a customers 20fpe 15" barrel FT rifle. Rifle was put in a BR stock for testing. I'll call it a BR model since it's in a BR stock....even though it's a shorty.

Thomas BR 20 fpe
Jsb monster 13.4 at 810 fps
Mild wind 1-4 mph

Mike

It’s good to know that there are a few brands that like the 13.4g at 810-820 FPS for the 30 and 40Y Target Challenge. This seems to be the optimum velocity for this pellet.

Thomas, FX Crown, FX Dreamline, Akela, RAW TM1000x - all 177’s that happen to shoot pretty accurately with the 13.4g at this velocity.

I think this is our “first” perfect 200-20x Masters score since Feb 2022 when this challenge started.

Congrats Mike!

P.S. Ed and I were talking by phone earlier and he said he is going to buy himself an Olympic Feinwerkbau BR .177 800 series and give you a run for the money.

Only teasin’ I couldn’t resist.

Here's one for the spreadsheet. A 197 14X shot with my CaimanX with Arken 6-24 set at 24X. Pellets are H&N Baracuda 18s going about 875 fps. I measured the velocity of all but two shots and got a 37 ES (892 to 855). But the last 17 were better with a 23 ES. So hopefully the reg is settling down. I tried 900 and the ES dropped under 20 but the scores dropped to 188 and 190. So I'll leave it where it is accurate. Same score as the last target but with twice the Xs.

Went to range this morning and shot five 30Y Masters cards; one flag at 10Y from muzzle. Wind very light at start and only 1-2/3 mph a bit later.

RAW TM1000X .177
Sightron 45x ED
FX 13.4g trash cans

I numbered each card and shot them sequentially.

First card was a DQ. Bad pellet load in bull 4A. Had a pretty good card going

2nd card: 193-10X
3rd card: Another DQ. Bad chambering of pellet in 3A. Would have been a 198-14X
4th card: 193-12X
5th card: 199-13X ( almost made it to 200, but no leaderboard as I already posted a 199-17X in April)

The RAW TM1000x is highly sensitive to chambering these pellets. I always know when I will get a flier. The cocking is cumbersome and not smooth, if the pellet is not pushed in chamber all the way with firm thumb pressure. Has to be adjustment on pellet probe is my thought.

Took the Taipan Vet2 700mm .22 caliber with me today. Wind light again today at the start at 9:20 am.

Shot six cards. Three 30Y Masters and three 40Y Masters. One of the 40Y Masters was a 180, so threw it away.

It pains me to say it, but June has not been kind to me this week. Despite shooting another 199-13X 30Y Masters, no leaderboards.

30 Y Masters:

199-13X
198-15X
191-9X

40Y Masters:

190-6X
191-10X
180 throw away

The JSB 20.83g and JTS 22.07g are shooting very well. No complaints with this rifle.

Returned home this afternoon around 4:30, retrieved the mail and suddenly realized there was only a very slight breeze blowing. Dumped the mail on the kitchen counter and headed for the garage to get my wind flags and a 40 YD Masters card put out before the conditions changed. Went as follows:

1st card score was 194-12X 2-eights and 2-nines.
2nd card score was 195-15X 1-eight and 3-nines.
Gave up on that tin of pellets due to the unexplained flyers and switched to a different pellet lot.
3rd card score was a 198-16X with back-to-back nines in block three.
For the 4th card I decided to put out a 40 Yd Challenge card in hopes I might improve my odds a bit. It worked, but I still ended up with two unexplained flyers on the card in spite of shooting in what I think were almost ideal conditions. The tails on the flags stayed within ten degrees of vertical until I was on the last row of the 4th card.

Ed, please replace my existing 40 YD Challenge score with the attached 200-19X card.
