30-Yard Challenge

You are correct Tommy. Thanks

The ten ring is similar to the USBR Rimfire cards.

Awesome shooting Mike!

I think if you go back to one of the original posts you will find that Tom Carlson (the guy who started this thread) said this about the target,
"It is the 50 feet 5.5mm MOA target. I downloaded it from gatewaytoairguns.com. " I think he is talking about an NRA target.

I find it really close to the USBR 50 yd rimfire and use that as my backer so I can shoot those for sighters.

Cheers,
Greg

One more at 40y and one at 50m (55y). This will about wrap it up for me since my wife has already yelled at me for using her printer. 😀. I have one left.

55 Yards! That’s a long way ( even for 38g .22 cal slugs) to hit that many ‘10’ rings. I think they are small at 30/40Y. Some good wind reading here for these tiny rings.

That card I just submitted was shot in some weird conditions? As you can tell by my sighters all the vertical I was getting??? I have a pretty steep drop off (Walk out basement) to my left-“west” if the wind is coming out of the Northwest which doesn’t happen often I get some really strange vertical so to me this card is exceptional. I know, I know easy to toot my own horn!
The Dude that makes those Thompson’s😂you’d think he was a shooter first wouldn’t ya🤔

I tried one at 40y with my slug gun. Very heavy desert mirage.

Mirage is extremely hard to shoot in, we get some in Mi. From a heavy Dew that burns off in the morning, but nothing like what you experience. That makes your card even that much more exceptional!

It's ugly in the afternoon. I've often thought of putting in sod out to the target, but I don't think I could keep it alive. 😀

Joe, Ricky, Mike and Marvin…. you guys are submitting some all-time awesome cards! When I first pushed this target out to 40 yards in late 2023 I didn’t think high 190 cards were possible.

Then one lucky day late that year I shot a 198 17X with my Crown - first and last targets were 9s and 18 straight 10s in the middle. It opened my eyes as to what was possible with these PCPs. I was a bit shocked at the time.

TO ALL OUR “NORMAL“ SHOOTERS:

Don’t be intimidated by the scores at the top of these leaderboards. The first time you take your FX, Daystate etc PCP and try this target at 30 yards you might score 175. KEEP SHOOTING IT!

These guys submitting 195+ scores didn’t get that good “shooting groups”. Shooting this tiny target makes you work on all aspects of your technique and rifle setup to improve your scoring.

The outcome you want to see is that you submit a 178 as your best from your first day trying it… and you submit a 195+ 6 months later - improving each month.

I keep a record of all my scores with each rifle. What I love to see is rifles that I got good enough with so that I always break 190 - even in the wind.

Its a personal challenge - there is no prize money… at least not yet, lol.

Shot two cards with the .177 Black Wolf using the JSB 16.2's. Did a bit better, was not in a hurry. There was one crazy flyer. I have a port restrictor coming from AoA so we'll see how it goes with lighter pellets at standard velocities. Also tried those 16.2's in my AA S510XS at its highest power setting. They did pretty well...Cheers!

Hi Rick

Very solid cards. Will be good to see how the Black Wolf does with the port restrictor from AoA and 13.4g FX non redesigns (trash cans).

Re. AA S510 - Can you reduce HS easily on this rifle and try and get 13.4g to 810-820? You’re at 791 FPS currently with 16.2g?

The power adjustment is just a dial that is indexed and simple. I’ve tested those pellets in the past at different velocities and the 510 didn’t like them. The adjustment doesn’t always allow you to be in that precise fps range, though. I have done well with the JTS 10.4, Benjamin 10.5, and the JSB 10.3. I can’t recall if I tested the 13.4 with 810-820. I vaguely remember being frustrated that the adjustment didn’t end up in that range. Easy to try again, though. Hopefully the BW will work with those. And, yes, the 791 was the average with the 16.2 at it’s highest power.

Good to know.

The 791 at highest power on the AA with the 16.2g might put the 13.4g at around 825-830 fps. Best guess.

But, the real test will be how the port restrictor might allow you to dial in the BW at optimum 810-815 fps range with 13.4g

This is a 30y with a customers 20fpe 15" barrel FT rifle. Rifle was put in a BR stock for testing. I'll call it a BR model since it's in a BR stock....even though it's a shorty.

Thomas BR 20 fpe
Jsb monster 13.4 at 810 fps
Mild wind 1-4 mph

Awesome card Mike - straight to the top of the 30-Masters Leaderboard!

What scope and magnification did you on this .177 Thomas FT rifle?

Thanks,

-Ed
