30-Yard Challenge

Windy again today, but had to get out of the house. I have the distance in the woods behind my house to shoot in my back yard, but the noise of pellets hitting trees or a standing target would get my neighbors attention, so I have to go to the outside local range. Big open field, no trees to block the wind so there is rarely a wind free day.

Shot both the Safari and RAW .22 air guns today. Safari (198) edged out the RAW (196), but it was close.

re. Safari Card - I accidentally crossed out box #1, but it does count. Box #'s 5 and 6 are the rejects.

Don't you hate killing a reject pair of bulls with a 10 or 10X in one of the bulls?

I like shooting single targets as compared to shooting groups. There is no hiding mistakes when shooting single bulls and it quickly exposes any flaws in technique or equipment.

Boy, ain’t that the truth! For me, “score” bench rest shooting is a bigger challenge than just shooting groups. Although, I do like both and I understand the biases for either discipline.

To add to the conversation, I like both group and score shooting. I shoot several groups of a specific pellet to find a good batch for score matches and would love to have registered group matches as well!

I have often wondered what a competition of 5-5 shot groups would look and feel like in relation to 25 bull score competition? Then do three relays of those group cards as in score.

Joe, fantastic targets! Yeah, I think your idea of shooting five 5-shot groups could be a blast as well. I need to also get back and shoot some N50 50 yard cards and see if the 30 yard challenge experience will help improve my scores. Sure is nice to have both challenges.

Let's stay with the same rules, an X just needs to touch the center black dot. For the 200 shooters, if you are interested in a tie-breaker, feel free to add a XX for when you completely remove the center black dot. That would help break the tie at 200 17X. For the rest of us sub-200 shooters, no need to count XX's.

Hey Tom - slight correction, my RAW is an HM1000x .22.

But, I would love to also own Joe’s .177 RAW, so thanks for the gesture. 😀😀

That is some sweet shooting there Tommy!

You guys and your cold weather. I'm putting everything away at work and totally beat. It felt like it was over 100 plus the wind felt as hot as a hairdryer. 🥵 Probably won't be able to shoot tonight but I will try to set up some targets at least so if I get home early tomorrow maybe I can shoot a card or two.

Hey Shooters,

A couple of members in our group have mentioned wanting to shoot a .25 caliber in our challenge. Since we are all just having fun, feel free to shoot whatever caliber you have. I can easily build leaderboards for each caliber, if there are enough entries. Since our best score is from a .177 (nomojo65) it appears this challenge is not very caliber dependent. If anyone has an issue with this, just let me know. Thanks for shooting with me!
