.30 slug shooter

Hi Guys,

Hope this post makes some sense as I am on day 4 or night 4 I guess now at the hospital were I am pretty much living for the near future (no, the wife didn't finally kick me out for buying to many toys) between vaccines and newbies and specialist rotations and Covid etc. etc. not much time outside these walls...

So a buddy of mine (Vascular Surgeon so ego times 1000) and I made a bet on a .30 slug shootout.

Rules:

2k budget

Commercially available (no one off custom guns)

Cannot be any gun from a manufacture we currently own (blind testing so to speak) a .30 gun from....

50 grain max slug weight

50-75-100 yard 10 shot groups smallest group size when averaged across all three distances wins.

Winner leaves with both guns.

That being said I need some advice on a .30 slug shooter that is NOT a FX, Uragan, RAW, DayState, Cricket as I already own this brands in .30

I am buying an Edgun R5 Super Long .30 but am second guessing my choice....

Anyone have a good recommendation for a .30 slug shooter or is my R5 choice the way to go??

ANY insight would be appreciated....Hell even better if you want to sell me the gun!!

I THINK he is going with a Vulcan .30 but not positive....

Hope all is well with everyone and looking forward to the advice.

Dr. Mike

It’s not an expensive gun, but a Evanix rainstorm.30 has a 1-26 twist barrel and is superbly accurate with both pellets and slugs. That’s 7 shots with 55 grain Nielsen @50 yards @ 860fps. And that flier was definitely me.

I've been working with my .308 Texan SS. It has been working better with slugs than any other .30 pellet gun. The barrel twist shoots them effortlessly. My other .30's it takes too much work to and effort to get them up to speed.

So airforce finally got 308 to work? I always tho it was by far worst texan caliber starting from too short chamber, too weak loading lip area, bad crowns and wrong twistrate and incredibly badly leading up barrel combined with alot of harmonic issues. If they fixed all those its nice but AF usually dosent really bother.

Airforce I have heard good and bad on and can't take a chance of getting one on the bad end...

The Rain Storm is an option but I owned one and never could get it right....Had it sent to Will Platt and Alan Z. and just never gave me the accuracy I would have expected.

Looks like the R5 .30 and possibly the Jager any others?

Have to get it bought today so not much time.

Nap time finally!!

Yes. It works great. There were issues, some that was from Airforce and some from users. The .308 had some baffles that were not perfect and clipped. That has been fixed. Many users just tried too heavy of slugs. Such long slugs did not shoot as well as light to medium weights. I choose 75grain at 950fps, but up to 110 worked fine. I can easily hit a coyote in the head every time with it's precision. Six inch steel every time at 200 yards. I am very impressed with it. I plan on shooting pigeon at 150 yards this week. I'll put a video on to show it's capabilities.

The massive power causes harmonic issues, yes. But with an SS version (shorter barrel) and lower power those issues are less of an issue. Mine is at 150fpe and it does not shoot like it does at 230fpe. Much smoother and less violent recoil.
