.30 cal Wildcat

Really thinking about getting a .30 to add to the stable....haven't heard much on the wildcat and want to know what any of you owners think. Charlie mentioned that kalibr gun has a .30 Cricket in the work also!

I really don't like bottle guns and I'm more of a hunter than paper puncher...

Looking for info on real world accuracy and has anyone power tuned one?

James from Michigan,

Mine arrived today in walnut . Beautiful and light. Hope to have a report tomorrow night.

Hey James, what exactly is a ChuckHunter? I hope us Chuck's aren't on the menu...so what do you hunt up there in Michigan, and at what distances? I recently tuned my new Wildcat .30 to shoot the 50 gr. JSB pellets at 90 fpe, which produces great hunting accuracy. I have only been able to shoot them out to 120 yards so far at the range, though I believe they would be accurate for hunting much farther than that. For target shooting the 44.75 JSB lend themselves to better accuracy but only 86.5 fpe...quite a bit less power than the 50 grainers.

All things considered I would personally recommend the Wildcat .30 over a Kalibrgun Cricket. The 9mm Cricket is a comparable length semi-bullpup but it is over two pounds heavier than the Wildcat out of the box, and then add the weight of a full size scope and you end up with a whole lot of weight in a very small package. Then add the fact that you have to reach up behind your ear to cock it as your holding up over 11 pounds...which is fine if you hunt from a bench rest.

Conversely, the FX Wildcat .30 is very light, powerful, externally adjustable, is a true bull pup with the cocking lever forward, and yet is as long and sleek as a Black Panther so the weight is distributed over a longer distance and just feels so light and maneuverable. With a full size scope you are only holding up a rifle combo that weighs just over 8 pounds. When you are slogging through fields or going over hill and dale while out hunting, believe me when I say that extra 3 pounds feels like 30 by the end of the day. During a long day of hunting, ounces turn into pounds, and pounds turn into Pain... So my advice to a hunter would be to keep it light and powerful and accurate. Period.

All the best, Chuck

Hey Bob, in case you were wondering I am still around just been really busy lately tuning guns for guys. I deleted my original post on the Wildcat .30 with the idea of rewriting the whole review in a more fact based format, which I will get around to as soon as I have the time. Matter of fact, I will also be writing up a review of tuning an AMP Regulated Warcat .25, where I also replaced the FX AMP Reg with a Huma Regulator like I did with my Wildcat .30.

You know now that I think about it, I seem to like calling her Black Panther as much or more than the Sabertooth Wildcat...what do you guys think? Matter of fact, I just made up my mind...my black beauty's new name is Black Panther from now on! I name all my guns the way some people name their children. :) Regardless of what I call her though, my Wildcat .30 is definitely the Queen of the Wildcats!

Best regards, Chuck

Here is a picture of her during tuning...beautiful, sleek, and dangerous. Definitely a Black Panther!

P.S. I may bitch about some of the little problems with FX Airguns sometimes, but I wouldn't own anything else!

Unless you live in a hole in the ground and have 4 big teeth and pine cone looking tail your safe from my menu.....lol !

Coyotes and woodchucks at under 100yds are the targets for the .30 cal. I have my Cricket carbine at 62fpe but I'm intrigued about the crazy power of that black panther!

What was the max with AMP reg ?

Looking forward to you rewriting that review and tune work post. I'm holding off punching the add to cart button until I learn a little more about her!

James from Michigan,

I think the first thing that needs to be done is to ditch the AMP reg for a Huma.

See l think that's exactly what needs to be done....and I should just buy both at the same time and be happy to take my new rig apart and inspect and slick everything up right out of the box ! Thinking on buying from Precision Airguns right here in Michigan. Its only a couple hours away but working 3rd shift makes it hard to get there during the week . But shipping should be fast !
