.30 Cal for 25m BR

I am new to Airgun BR. I have dabbled with .22 cal with a springer but I am ready to move to PCP. We shoot 25m targets and chicken silhouettes at 40, 50, 60, and 70 yards. Most folks use .177 or .22.

A local is offering a HM1000x for a reasonable price in .30. The price interests me more than the caliber. Is there a downside to going to .30 cal for this use other than the cost of pellets?

Thanks for any wisdom.

Agree with Mike for sure - verify the caliber and power limits. If they use a .22 scoring plug that reason alone might stop them from allowing .30.

It sounds like you're not shooting at 25m distance - it sounds like you're shooting 40-70 yards. I have both a .22 HM1000x and a .30 HM1000x. For 70y it's a toss-up. For 40y I'd go with the .22 but both will work well. My .30 is tuned to 75 ft-lb and my .22 is at 42 ft-lb so I think generally the recoil and smoothness of the .22 is the better choice.

I am considering having my .30 HM1000x worked up with a .22 barrel for slug shooting. Not sure if you're willing to ship to the lower 48 but Martin Rutterford still does great work on these guns.

After 43 winters in extreme winter, She Who Must Be Obeyed now insists we spend the winter months in warmer climes. So we now are in Arizona for the winter. RAW and Daystate seem to be popular brands and now it is apparent why most folks shoot .177 or .22. Thanks for the insights.

I will take a pass on the .30 cal rifle and pick up a .177 or .22. In the meantime I will use my nice HW97.
