3 estate sale springers. Which should I buy? Weihrauch HW98, Feinwerkbau Sport 124, or...

Well, I ended up with only the HW98. Oh how I was looking forward to replacing seals and spring in that FWB; I even read the threads on how to do it and had a spring compressor rig all laid out in my mind.

The Spanish-speaking guys lined up just in front of me before the doors opened made a b-line for the rifles and picked up all 3. I grabbed the 98 when they laid it back down. Somebody else grabbed the scopes. The manager said there were about 8 air rifles to start with. Here's a link to the auction ad. Photos of the air rifles are at the very bottom/end of the listing. https://www.estatesales.net/CO/Lakewood/80227/3570336?picture=140609331

Thanks again for all your input last night!

And now it's time to shop for some .20 cal pellets and a scope. Any favorite pellets for that HW98? Airgundepot.com has 11.42 gr H&N Sport Field Target Trophy pellets, 13.27 gr H&N Baracuda pellets, and JSB Diabolo Exact in both 13.73 gr and 15.89 gr. https://www.airgundepot.com/airgunpellets.html?caliber=0.20

It appears the deceased owner was a true enthusiast, as the rifle case included pre and post tuning tests for a HW55 done by "John of PA". I've emailed John of PA to see if he's worked on my newly acquired HW98.

The previous owner appears to have been named John Czosnyka, based on a Google search of the address where the sale was and the obit I found....ALS got him.

Well, I ended up with only the HW98 for $150 plus sales tax as it was 25% off today. Oh how I was looking forward to replacing seals and spring in that FWB; I even read the threads on how to do it and had a spring compressor rig all laid out in my mind.

Good job.

Sounds like you did ok. I have a 98 and something happened and the stock split, straight grain right across the pistol grip, making it very weak in that area. I have it out being repaired now. No experinece with a HW50, the closest I have is a 35 e and no complaints there. I do have a FWB 124d, nicer stock and have it outfitted with a globe front that takes interchangeable inserts, and a nice rear diopter. The 98 is very very heavy, and requires more effort to cock. My choice would be a 124 get it cleaned up and tuned with new seals and springs . I see you already got the 98, the only thing I really dislike about it is the fact that it is an optics only gun the older I am getting at 77 the better I like my high grade iron(diopter) sights.

Nice snag and awesome price. You'd be better off getting the JSB 13.73's from Jeff at Trenier. $16.49 a tin vs the $24.99 a tin AGD wants, way better service and outstanding packing.
