3~12x compact-class scopes...

@jungleshooter Thanks for all your insight (and the PDF! :) ). Ah if only $$ wasn't an issue...damn it still looking for that tree it grows on, hehe.

That new Athlon sounds interesting; may have a look at it anyway. Agreed for most things 50yd and under, a max of 8x will more than suffice... rest is up to the shooter's nerves for the most part.

I just got back in town last night and haven't had time to respond much over the weekend.

Here's my opinions. The quality built into the new Helos G2 2-12x42 is really something that has to realized in person. Not a single person that has played with mine has had anything negative to say about it, in fact they all were VERY impressed instead!

The thing is that even though it's FFP the reticle is sized so it can be seen on 2x. It's pretty much the perfect FFP hunting scope. Let's be real here, our better hunting AG's are 1/2 moa guns on a good day at 50Y, well that's basically the size of the dot at 50Y. Then you have the circle of death around the dot that's 2 mil wide which helps with super fast acquisition! So the scope is like a prism sight but with more magnification. Here's a real world example of how easy the reticle is to use on even small targets. I was able to go 7 for 8 on the 10Y/.5" and the 13Y/75" stage at the PFT event during the Sonoran Grand Prix this weekend. Believe me you will not be held back in the least if you want to hunt with this scope! I know you guys know I'm an Athlon fanboy, however I'm also a consumer like you, and as a avid shooter I have to say I love this scope for what it is and it's amazing versatility !!!

Except for a little weight and length there is no other scope in the price range of the Helos G2 that can hold a candle to it! Truly EXCEPTIONAL is how I would describe it.

That is a nice setup 4 sure. Would be even nicer if it weighed less than 20oz. I like Athlons a lot, but do think they could shed a few oz. Congratulation on your shooting, sounds like that scope likes you.

Thanks I appreciate that!

Yep, the Helos G2 isn't for everyone, especially for those people when their #1 priority is weight, but it's got all the other bases covered.

I made a mistake in my post, the center dot is not close to 1/2 moa, it's approx 1 moa instead, actual is .3 mil in size. I edited my post to fix it.

I know some of you guys mentioned this but figured I want to confirm for myself as am not very picky... but dayum! that reticle in the Vector Veyron FFP is absolutely useless until 8x. Basically that 3-12x is more an 8-12x scope. What in the hell was Joe and others raving about? Man I don't get it. Never seen a reticle so thin/fine of a line.

To their credit, the build quality is very good; glass is exceptional.

Now between these 3 musketeers of the same scope (us optics ts12/ veyron/ discovery), Discovery is the only one that has a lit reticle... it's probably the best/exceptional buy of the 3 ...if you can live with the busy busy reticle. Disappointing how each one has something I (and am sure most of you will) want or can use.

Well, its compact enough to throw on my R7 springer... thats where it'll live.

Scratching out all 3, for my PCPs... they deserve better.

Other delivery today... the Hawke Airmax 30 Compact IR 3-12x. I dig it a lot. Slightly longer than the Veyron... but worth every penny. Reticle is good/lit; glass is good; relatively light; eyebox is good...

Will be looking out for good deals moving forward... for a 2nd.

Also got 4-16x versions of this Amx 30 compact.

(To the manufacturers, yeah its that easy... built something we want/can use and nuts like me will buy 2-3-4 sets just like that. Not looking for a unicorn.)
