.25cal Impact MKII accuracy @ 50 yards

This is the first time I went out to shoot groups at 50 yards and this was the best one of the day. I'm guessing it should do better, or I should be.

edit to add.....25gr JSB Kings at approx 900fps. 700mm Superior liner with Earnest Rowe carbon fiber sleeve.

I don’t have an Impact but I regularly shoot both groups and scoring cards ( N50 ) at 50 yards outdoors. “IF”……. And I emphasize “IF;” …. Your gun is averaging 1/2” groups at 50 yards outdoors with any kind of wind, you are getting excellent results. .27” is spectacular, even if that was cherry picked!

I have a RAW HM1000x .22 HP and RW Safari .22 HP And both guns are capable of shooting 1/2” groups. I normally shoot between 5-10 Five shot groups and average the group size.

I would be happy if your gun is shooting MOA or sub-MOA at 50 yards!,

You think it should be doing better than half MOA? Don't believe the hype that they should all be in the same exact hole. That's very very good at 50yds. Lots of internet "professional shooters" will tell you same hole all day long. Don't believe them. Anything under MOA shooting outdoors is good, half MOA very good. I have only shot one 5 shot group at 50yds where it was the same size as a pellet hole and that was with my WARP Cobra .30. I've owned many many other guns believe me same hole all day is the biggest joke ever especially outdoors.

Anyways like Jason asked, what's the rest of them like? Were they way bigger?

I’m guessing your pellet will move 1/4” at 50y in a 1mph wind. Depending on the wind angle….it will also move up and down. Nobody has the ability to accurately determine what the wind is doing between the muzzle and target without flags and velocity indicators. You cannot sense a 1mph wind change. Therein lies the challenge of Benchrest shooting.

That one shot could be a flyer, wind or even your heartbeat. Minus the outlier that groups is amazing, even with the outlier the group is still fantastic. No matter how anyone boasts that’s really good at 50 yards. Can they all touch at 50yards? If stars all align, sure. I’ve gotten almost all touch 5 shot groups at 50 yards with slugs but pellets get affected by wind too much.

Nice! That is a very decent group for 50 yards for a first time with shooting groups, especially. That is five squirrel headshots at 50 yards! I like to run multiple groups so I know the gun is producing consistent groups. The groups can bounce around with the human and wind factors. Don't sweat it, It is good. Those speaking of single hole groups are not being realistic. I have done it at 50 yards but that's far from the norm and more of luck.

Here is an example of my groups with my .25 600mm. They are about the same as yours and I can hit what I want with them. I like the MKIIs. I don't record many groups, but have several like this when I use to record and post them.

+1

Nicely stated Mike.

Just to emphasize the wind affect - I shot some 100 yard EBR cards the other day, and the wind was between 3-7 mph and the 4 cards were not great: 213, 214, 214, and 220. ( I posted these card's in the RMAC Practice post from CC).

Reading the wind at either 50 or 100 yards is essential. If I do my gun/pellet/accuracy testing I 'try' and pick almost a no-wind day or it's not worth it. I don't want to make any false conclusions about the gun or tuning, based on significant wind affecting my accuracy.

Could not resist! You said what many others are thinking as they read this and many other posts.

I could not agree more with each and every word here. If I see another 'same hole all day long at 50 yards' post or YT video, I think I will crack up. I also would like to know what the rest of your groups were like OP.

Thanks for all the replys gentlemen. I had cleaned the barrel prior to going out and the initial groups weren't that great and I was messing with my scope also which didn't help some of them. I ordered some Hybrid slugs, Nielsen 26.8gr, 29.0gr, 33.5gr slugs and JSB 33.95gr pellets. I now have a group to gauge the others against when I do the tests. I think I'll tune the rifle to shoot the 33.95gr pellets around 950fps which will give me plenty of velocity for the lighter ones. I may try shooting them all at the same velocity (950fps) to see what they group like. I also ordered a set of GMI swaging dies to make my own slugs, but that's probably a month or so away.

Transsonic turbulence robs pellets of accuracy if they "go too fast". Much faster pellets will drift even more and it means that faster is not better especially if any - wind.

I read it somewhere the JSB 33.9 MK2 likes the 910-918 range the best, I cannot confirm this yet I am still working on a full clearance to my range ........

This is five 5 shot groups with my impact M3 shooting JSB kings unsorted at 50 yards.

Shot early morning with no wind flags. Velocity at 890 f.p.s.

Pretty nice! Safe to say you and your M3 can shoot less than 1/2” at 50 yards in light wind conditions ( I.e., early morning ). I don’t sort my pellets either.
