Tuning .25 Vulcan 1 renewed

Customer has an original Vulcan 1. Gun is about 8 years old and has never gotten a reseal. He wanted to power tune her a bit and add a biathlon lever instead of the old bolt.

What great little PCPs these are. I installed a power plenum and the biathlon lever. Installed a new gauge, power modded and resealed all. Also got a DonnyFL Tanto with the deal. Set reg at 155bar. 25.39gr Kings are doing 940 fps & 33.95gr King Heavies are doing 860fps.

Ohhh baby! That’s got to be one happy client. Short, sweet and one heck of a performer. Eastern European Bloc quality and engineering at its finest! Well done Sir!
Vulcan a ten shot magazine in .25 cal? Do tell us Derrick, had the client requested to utilize solely 25.39’s, say around 880-890 fps, what would you predict the shot count to have been?

Based on your real life experience, shooting beyond 100 yds, which of the two for mentioned weight pellets would be your choice & for what reason/reasons. Note: there will always be wind involved and this is not a trick question. Responsible hunting has always been a passion of mine - to wound a creature is absolutely horrible. A clean shot or No shot at all.

With all due respect, Jamie

I agree, the AGT Vulcan, no matter what year or iteration, they are very high quality and beautifully engineered. This one is very compact with only a 450mm barrel and 250cc tube.

I’d say this same tune with the 25.39s at 880 fps would yield 36 plus shots which is 4 magazines worth with this Vulcan which has a 9 round mag. The Vulcan 2 has an updated magazine which is a 10-shot capacity.

For 100 yards, I’d use the 33.95gr Heavy King. It simply has a superior BC and will hold it together better at long range. Better BC means more retained energy & less wind drift at a given distance than the 25.39gr. The King 25.39gr, though, is a great pellet. For squirrel hunting in thick woods, you can’t beat it as it’s rare to shoot beyond 55-60 yards.
