.25 + Small Game + 10 - 15 yards = Overkill???

Here are my thoughts on my first PCP rifle ever... (.25 Marauder).

- The gun is way heavier than I thought. Doesn't mean much since I can only compare it to my GAMO Whisper Fusion Pro. But it feels heavy. Balance is ok though.

- Louder than I thought. Again, only comparison I have is the GAMO, and that's in .177. The Marauder is in .25.

- Cocking it is a pain. I am sure the "action" will get smoother with time, but for now, it sucks.

- Pumping is not as bad as I thought. Effort wise and time wise. I did not time myself yet, as I have only filed it up twice so far, but it can't be more than a couple of minutes.

- Speaking of pumping. The Benjamin pump is junk. The grips (on the handle) are way to close together, the material is uncomfortable and the stand is too small. I guess you get what you pay for...

I am pretty sure I will return it and get something else...

Thanks,

Kmd

I tore down my Marauder when I was installing the SSG and found that there was a bunch of machining debris in the slide for the bolt as well as in the hammer chamber. I cleaned them both out and reassembled and the bolt is much smoother now. Someone asked about the SSG earlier. It's important to remember that it is not a power mod. It is an efficiency mod. It reduces or eliminates hammer bounce which wastes air and makes noise. If I tuned it down to 800-750fps I'd probably get about 25-30 shots from my .25cal. That's a HUGE improvement over stock.

Thanks for the input.

Well, I am not going to tear mine down. I would, if I liked the gun enough to keep it. But as of right now, I don't.

Anyhow, good to know that there is a cheap mod out there though, that would increase the shot shoot count...

Thanks,

Kmd

P.s. I forgot to mention in my earlier post that the stock feels and looks really cheap as well. Cheaper than it does on my GAMO.

Send it back if you're not bonding with it. I got to shoot an Mrod and a Hatsan AT44 and a Sumatra before I bought a PCP and of those I liked the action on the AT44 the best. I did find I got better with the Mrod if I put my thumb behind the barrel as leverage. Without that it was not fun to cycle at all. And you're right, it will probably get easier the more you do it.

I use a Flying Dragon PCP hand pump for my .25 Hatsan Gladius. I bought the pump used and so far it works fine. The grips will make my hands sore if I use it too much. Maybe I should try some work gloves, that's an idea.

I know you kind of already answered your own thread topic question in that you did purchase a .25 but that's what I would suggest.

Interesting. I "discovered" the same trick of putting my thumb behind the barrel, to ease the cocking action. However, we will see what happens within the next 90 days and how much easier the cocking will get.

Today was also the first time where I actually timed myself pumping. It took around 3 minutes to go from 2000 - 3000. Not bad, I would say. It wasn't a big deal at all, considering the pump is not that great. My pump causes my hand to hurt as well... That is why I am looking to modify a pump down the road, so it works more like a water pump you use on a well... Anyhow, different story.

Yup, I got the .25. All I have to do now is, get a better scope. I am looking at the MTC Viper Pro. I actually started another thread about it... : )
